Sophie's World is a 1997 educational adventure game developed by The MultiMedia Corporation and published by Voyager. It is an adaptation of the novel Sophie's World by Norwegian writer Jostein Gaarder. [1]
The game was developed by a small team of 6-7 core Mac developers and Win32 developers, one lead graphic designer, and producers, as well as contract workers. The scenes, audio, and timelines were collaborated between the departments. Sam Deane created a game engine from scratch to present the scenes. Simon Jenkins wrote the natural language engine for the in-game instant message application. The writing was aided by academics of philosophy to ensure realism and accuracy. [2]
The player explores concepts in Western philosophy through the eyes of the 14-year-old Sophie. The title contains an in-game encyclopaedic database.
Ray Ivey of Just Adventure described it as short, imaginative, and delicious. [3] Quandaryland's Steve Ramsey wrote that while the game only took an hour to complete, he didn't have a desire to stay in the world for longer. [4]
At the 1997 Bima Awards, the British Interactive Multimedia Association presented the game with a craft award for sound and music. [5]

Lucas Learning was a company founded by George Lucas in 1996 as a spin-off to LucasArts in order to provide challenging, engaging and fun educational software for classrooms. Many of their award-winning titles were based on the national curriculum. The company was located in San Rafael, California, and was headed by former MECC senior vice president of development and creative director Susan Schilling. Shilling asserted that Lucas was personally involved with the products and that a company mantra was to stay away from violence. They released games from 1998 until announcing their cancellation of a Mac version of Star Wars Super Bombad Racing in mid 2001, the year Lucas Learning decided to leave the market.
Physicus: Save the World with Science! is a 1999 educational adventure video game developed by Ruske & Pühretmaier Edutainment and published by Heureka-Klett-Softwareverlag and Tivola Entertainment. It aims to teach players about physics concepts. It is part of a series that includes the chemistry-themed Chemicus and biology-themed sequel Bioscopia. It was the second learning adventure game by Ruske & Pühretmaier after the music-based Opera Fatal. The game's website had a minigame called "PHYSICO DriveIn" that players could download and complete in to get the highscore, which would win them a free copy of a game by the studio. A sequel entitled Physicus: The Return was later released, and was remade for the iOS.
