Sotos Zackheos (born 1950/51) is a Cypriot former ambassador and permanent secretary at the foreign ministry. [2]

Sotos Zackheos has bachelor's degrees in Law, and in Economics and Political Sciences, from the University of Athens and a master's degree in Political Science from Stanford University in the United States. [1]

Zackheos is a member of the board of directors of RCB Bank, formerly known as Russian Commercial Bank (Cyprus). [2] [3]

In December 2013, President Nicos Anastasiades appointed Zackheos as the Special Envoy of the President of Cyprus to Russia. [4] [5]

He was the Minister of Investment of Egypt from 2004-2010, and most recently, served as the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda, United Nations Relations and Partnerships. His roles at the World Bank also included Managing Director, responsible for Human Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty Reduction and Economic Management, Finance and Private Sector Development, and the World Bank Institute; World Bank President's Special Envoy on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and Financing for Development; and Corporate Secretary and Executive Secretary to the Development Committee of the World Bank Group's Board of Governors. Dr Mohieldin also served on several Boards of Directors in the Central Bank of Egypt and the corporate sector. He was a member of the Commission on Growth and Development and was selected for the Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2005. His professional experience extends into the academic arena as a Professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University and as a Visiting Professor at several renowned Universities in Egypt, Korea, the UAE, the UK and the USA. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Durham University Business School. He also holds leading positions in national, regional and international research centres and associations. He has authored numerous publications and articles in leading journals in the fields of economics, finance and development.

Nicos Anastasiades is a Cypriot politician and businessperson, who served as the seventh president of Cyprus from 2013 to 2023. Previously, he was the leader of Democratic Rally between 1997 and 2013 and served as Member of Parliament from Limassol between 1981 and 2013.

Tasos Mitsopoulos was a Cypriot politician. He served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2006 until 2013 for Democratic Rally. He then joined the cabinet of Nicos Anastasiades as Minister of Communications. In a cabinet reshuffle on 14 March 2014 he was appointed Minister of Defence.

Christos Stylianides is a Greek Cypriot politician who since September 13, 2023 serves as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece. From September 2021 to May 2023 served as Greece's first Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. On June 26 he was elected Member of the Hellenic Parliament with the governing New Democracy Party (ND). He has previously served as the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management from 2014 until 2019. In 2014, he was also appointed by the European Council as the European Union's Ebola Coordinator. Averof Neofytou is a Cypriot politician, who was the President of the then-ruling Democratic Rally (DISY) party from 2013 to 2023, and currently serves as Member of the House of Representatives since 2006, having previously served in the position from 1996 to 1999. Prior to his election to parliament, which he briefly left to serve as Minister of Communications and Works, he was active in local politics and served as Mayor of his hometown, Polis, from 1991 to 1998.

The 2008-2012 Cyprus talks were held as part of the long-going peace process, in order to resolve the Cyprus dispute. The talks failed to achieve their goals. An opinion poll conducted in 2010 reported that 84% of Greek Cypriots and 70% of Turkish Cypriots assumed that: "the other side would never accept the actual compromises and concessions that are needed for a fair and viable settlement". At the beginning of 2013, Cyprus negotiations were suspended because of a change of government in the Greek Cypriot community of Cyprus.
