Volusia County is located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Florida, stretching between the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean. As of the 2010 census, the county was home to 494,593 people, an increase of 11.6% from 2000. It was founded on December 29, 1854, from part of Orange County, and was named for the community of Volusia, located in northwestern Volusia County. Its first county seat was Enterprise. Since 1887, its county seat has been DeLand.

State Road 40 is a 91.832-mile-long (147.789 km) east–west route across central Florida, running from U.S. Route 41 in Rainbow Lakes Estates eastwards through Ocala over the Ocklawaha River and bridge and through the heart of the Ocala National Forest to State Road A1A in Ormond Beach. Names of the road include Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, Fort Brooks Road from Silver Springs through Astor, Butler Road in Astor, and Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach. Former sections in Ormond Beach are named "Old Tomoka Road" and "Old Tomoka Avenue."
Tomoka State Park is an 2,000-acre (8.1 km2) Florida State Park located along the Tomoka River, three miles (5 km) north of Ormond Beach on North Beach Street.
Withlacoochee State Trail is a 46-mile (74 km) long paved, multi-use, non-motorized rail trail in Florida located in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It follows along the Withlacoochee River and passes through the Withlacoochee State Forest. It is the longest paved rail trail in Florida.
Enterprise is an unincorporated community in Volusia County, in the U.S. state of Florida, and its former county seat. Situated on the northern shore of Lake Monroe, it is flanked by the cities of DeBary and Deltona. Enterprise was once the head of navigation on the St. Johns River and at various times, the county seat for three different counties: Mosquito, which was renamed as Orange; and lastly, for Volusia, which was formed from part of Orange County.
DeBary Hall is a historic site in DeBary, Florida, United States. It is located at 198 Sunrise Boulevard. On July 24, 1972, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Frederick DeBary was a wine importer for Mumms Champagne and built DeBary Hall in 1871 as his hunting retreat along the St. John’s River in central Florida. The area offered various leisure activities such as swimming in the local springs, fishing, and hunting quail, deer, and alligator.
The Lake George State Forest is a designated protected area and state forest in the U.S. state of Florida. The 21,176-acre (8,570 ha) forest is located in northwestern Volusia County, Florida, near Lake George and the communities of Pierson, Barberville, and Volusia. It is overseen by the Florida Forest Service within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The Cross Seminole Trail is a pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian trail in Seminole County, Florida just north of Orlando. The first segment opened in 2002. The current route begins in Oviedo and stretches into Winter Springs. An overpass was constructed in 2012, where the trail crosses State Road 434. The trail is 23 miles (37 km) long, or 34 miles (55 km) including the Orange County trail extension. The trail connects to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary.

The Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center is a 10,000 square foot building and ten acre natural area located along Lake Beresford in DeLand, Florida. The facility is named in honor of Sandra Stetson, who provided a $6 million gift to support construction of the building and a botanical garden within the grounds. Sandra Stetson is the great granddaughter of famed hat-maker John B. Stetson, for whom Stetson University is named.

The Nature Coast State Trail (NCST) is a 31.7-mile long segment of Florida's Statewide System of Greenways and Trails System built along abandoned railroad tracks, and designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a National Recreation Trail. It has two primary sections following unused rail lines that were originally built by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. It includes historic sites such as an old train trestle bridge over the Suwannee River near Old Town and train stations in Trenton, Cross City, and Chiefland. At Wilcox Junction abandoned rail tracks cross and connect with several communities. The trail is available to hikers, cyclists, and horse riders.
Green Springs Park is public park in Enterprise, Florida featuring a green-hued sulfur spring. The spring was once part of a 19th-century health resort and the surrounding area is a notable archeological site. After more than 20 years of effort to acquire and develop the site, the park finally opened in September 2008.

East Coast Regional Rail Trail is a 52-mile paved multi-use trail in Volusia County, Florida and Brevard County, Florida connecting from Enterprise, Florida to Edgewater, Florida with a 10-mile leg to Titusville, Florida. From the trailhead at Green Springs Park, other trailheads are at Osteen, Maytown, Edgewater and Titusville. It opened in March 2012 for use by walkers, joggers, in-line skaters, bicyclists, and people with disabilities. In September 2020, the trail is mostly completed with one 3-mile gap under construction. The trail includes portions of both the 250-mile Florida Coast-to-Coast Connector trail and 260-mile St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop.
