Square Islands are located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, close to Charlottetown. The islands were formerly one of the major fishing areas of Labrador, with a harbour which was a key haven from Atlantic storms. The nearby Hawke Basin remains one of the world's principal shrimp fishery areas.
It is believed that extractable reserves of petroleum may lie beneath the ocean bed nearby; the area is also rich in base metals.

Gaultois is a small settlement in the Coast of Bays area in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Gaultois had a population of 100 people in the 2021 census. The town has a K-12 school called Victoria Academy, as well as a fire department, public library, Lion's Club, and town hall. The town is only accessible by ferry or helicopter. The provincial government ferry runs from the nearby town of Hermitage several times daily and the crossing takes approximately 20 minutes. This ferry also services the more remote community of McCallum once to twice daily with a crossing time of around one hour and fifteen minutes. In 2015, Gaultois voted against resettlement. Gaultois considered resettlement again in 2023 but it failed.

It was said to be founded by Benjamin Powell in 1950 and named for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: "I thought that maybe someday the place would be the capital of the bay, the same way Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island."

Beau Bois is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador near Burin. It is 40 miles (64 km) from Placentia and 190 miles (310 km) from St. John's. The existence of Beau Bois can be documented at least as early as 1841 and probably existed for decades before. In 1844 widow Ann Farrell petitioned the Supreme Court of Newfoundland for redress of damages done to her by William Ryan and James Shock who went to her meadow at nearby Moorings Cove, Mortier Bay and stole her hay. She had been widowed in 1841 when her husband and sons drowned on a trip getting winter supplies from St. John's. Her cattle, hay, gardens and meadowland were her sole means of support. It is now a suburb of Marystown.
