Squash, sometimes called squash rackets, is a racket-and-ball sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow, rubber ball. The players alternate in striking the ball with their rackets onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. There are about 20 million people who play squash regularly world-wide in over 185 countries. The governing body of squash, the World Squash Federation (WSF), is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the sport will be included in the Olympic Games, starting with the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The Professional Squash Association (PSA) organizes the pro tour.
The World Squash Championships are squash events for men and women organised by the Professional Squash Association. The men's event was first held in 1976 in London, England and the women's was inaugurated in 1976 in Brisbane, Australia.
The Professional Squash Association (PSA) is the governing body for the men's and women's professional squash circuit. The body operates in a similar fashion to the ATP and the WTA for tennis. The PSA's highest professional level, the PSA World Tour involves over 250 tournaments annually around the world. The WSF World Team Squash Championships are an international squash competition organised by the World Squash Federation (WSF) and played between teams representing different nations. Countries enter teams of three or four players to represent them in the championships. In each round of the competition, teams face each other in a best-of-three singles matches contest. The competition is held once every two years, with the venue changing each time. Normally the men's and women's events are held in different years in two locations.

Raneem Mohamed Yasser Saad El Din El Welily is a former professional squash player from Egypt. She reached a career-high world ranking of No. 1 in September 2015. She is a three-time finalist at the World Open, in 2014, 2016, and 2019-2020. She became the World Champion in 2017, after defeating her compatriot Nour El Sherbini in the finals.

The World Junior Squash championships are the official junior tournament in the game of squash conducted by the World Squash Federation (WSF). Entry is open to individuals aged 19 and below. Since its inception, the world juniors has been held biennially with the junior men held one year, junior women the following year. The men's team event was held unofficially from 1973 to 1979. The individuals event are held annually starting from 2009 while the team event remains biennial.

The event was held in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, from December 1 to December 6, 2014. The tournament was organized by the World Squash Federation and Squash Canada. The England team won its seventh World Team Championships, beating the Malaysian team in the final.

The event held in Dalian, China took place from 11 to 19 September 2018. The tournament was organized by the World Squash Federation and the Chinese Squash Association. The Egypt team won its fourth World Team Championships, beating the England team in the final.
The 2019–20 PSA Women's World Squash Championship was the 2019–20 women's edition of the World Squash Championships, which serves as the individual world championship for squash players. The event took place in Cairo, Egypt from 24 October to 1 November 2019.
