The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years for athletes of Asia. The Games were regulated by Asian Games Federation from the first Games in New Delhi, India in 1951, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia, after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation. However, on 30 July 2023, the International Olympic Committee asked Randhir Singh, who was the acting president at the time, to continue as the Acting President of the OCA while the IOC investigated the OCA presidential election of 2023. On 13 October 2023, the IOC ethics committee asked the OCA to annul its 2023 elections due to Talal’s candidacy not fulfilling the eligibility conditions defined by the OCA Constitution and election interference by his brother Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

The 2026 Asian Games (2026年アジア競技大会), also known as 20th Asian Games (第20回アジア競技大会) and Aichi-Nagoya 2026 (愛知/名古屋2026), will be a multi-sport event celebrated around the Aichi Prefecture in Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026. The prefecture capital Nagoya will be the epicenter of the events. Nagoya will be the third Japanese city to host the Asian Games, after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. The event is set to return to its traditional 4-year cycle, after the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China were postponed to 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bids for the 2022 Asian Games</span>

Unlike previous editions, only one city has completed the entire bid process for the 2022 Asian Games, completed in August 2015. Thus, it was up to the Olympic Council of Asia to decide to give the rights to host the event to the Chinese city of Hangzhou as the host of the event during the institution's 34th General Assembly, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The confirmation was made during a press conference led by the OCA President Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah.

Cricket was one of the 37 sports that was played at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Both men's and women's Twenty20 International tournaments were played. Prior to this edition, cricket was last played at the Asian Games in 2014. The Asian Games were originally planned to take place in September 2022, but were later postponed by one year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fourteen men's teams and nine women's teams took part. The teams were seeded based on the ICC T20I Rankings as of 1 June 2023.

The women's tournament in volleyball at the 2022 Asian Games was the 19th edition of the event at an Asian Games, organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation in conjunction with the OCA. To avoid a clash of dates with the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women's Olympic Qualification Tournaments, the women's tournament was allocated to the last week of the Games. The event is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from 30 September to 7 October 2023.

The men's tournament of Water polo at the 2022 Asian Games at Hangzhou, China, was held from 2–7 October 2023 at the Huanglong Swimming Center. The Asian Games acted as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The men's tournament of rugby sevens at the 2022 Asian Games was held at the Cangqian Athletics Field, Hangzhou, China from 24 to 26 September 2023.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea competed at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from 23 September 2023 to 8 October 2023. Earlier the event was scheduled to held in September 2022 but due to COVID-19 pandemic cases rising in China the event was postponed and rescheduled to September–October 2023. The nation's football opener marked their return to international sport.
