St Saviour's RC High School was a state secondary school in Dundee, Scotland. It was a denominational school within the Catholic religious tradition, although it welcomed students from all religious backgrounds. The school closed in June 2008 and merged with Lawside Academy. [1]

History

St Saviour's was built in the 1970s at the east side of Dundee, opening at Christmas 1973. It remained a popular and thriving school for many years, producing such success stories as pop Band Danny Wilson 80s top ten hit Mary's Prayer fame, chess Grand Master Paul Motwani, Liz Lynch World and Olympic track athlete, Commonwealth Games Gold medal winner Gary Valentine, Gary Timmons, Christiaan van der Kuyl, all of whom who remained closely associated with the school until its closure.

On 27 June 2008, St Saviour's closed and merged with Lawside Academy to create a new school named St Pauls RC Academy. The building which once was St Saviour's was temporarily named as the Drumgeith Road Campus of St Paul's, as the new school building was still under construction until January 2009.

Demolition

It was announced on 8 October 2009, that St Saviour's would be demolished after Dundee City Council pulled out of plans to use the building to house their IT Department. [2]

School Badge

The school badge consisted of a crucifix with a crown at the bottom. Underneath in Latin read "Per Crucem Ad Lucem" which translates into "Through the Cross to Enlightenment".

The construction of the northernmost parts of the scheme, which were almost-exclusively Skarne blocks, continued into the early 1970s.

Braeview Academy is a secondary school in Dundee, Scotland. Situated on top of a steep hill (brae), it was originally named Whitfield High School. It was damaged in a fire on 11 September 2018, which destroyed around half of the building. Dundee City Council are considered replacing Braeview and nearby Craigie High School with a new school on the site of the former St Saviour's High School.

St Pauls Roman Catholic Academy

St. Paul's R.C. Academy is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Dundee, Scotland. The school was established in 2009 as a merger between Lawside Academy and St. Saviours High School. The combined school occupies a new site on Gillburn Road in the Kirkton area of Dundee, with the two previous sites left empty. As it is north of St. John's, the other Catholic secondary school in Dundee, St. Paul's Academy succeeds Lawside in holding the position as the northernmost state Catholic secondary school in Europe. The academy is named after Paul the Apostle, Paul being the middle name of the Right Reverend Vincent Logan, the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Dunkeld. The school has 5 houses named after saints: St. Andrew, St. Columba, St. Margaret, St. Ninian, and St. Patrick.
