The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz (German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate) is a German orchestra based in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in Ludwigshafen am Rhein.. [1] [2] as of the 2015/2016 season.
In 1919, the orchestra was founded as the Landes-Sinfonie-Orchester für Pfalz und Saarland ('State Symphony Orchestra for Palatinate and Saarland'). During the tenure of Christoph Eschenbach as chief conductor, the orchestra acquired the name of Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. In 1985, during the tenure of Leif Segerstam as chief conductor, the orchestra took up residence in the Philharmonie in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. On 1 January 1998, the orchestra was formally transformed into a state operation. The orchestra acquired its current name of Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz on 1 January 2007.

Benjamin Shwartz is an American-Israeli orchestral and opera conductor, and music director of the Wrocław Philharmonic known for his interest in and commitment to new music. Born in Los Angeles and raised there and in Israel, he attended the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California before enrolling in the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied composition with James Primosch. He continued his composition studies in Germany with Karlheinz Stockhausen. As a conducting student at the Curtis Institute of Music, he studied with Otto-Werner Mueller and worked closely with Christoph Eschenbach and Ned Rorem. Shwartz won numerous awards including the Presser Award, and Third Prize in the 2007 International Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg, Germany. Ralf Otto is a German conductor, especially known as a choral conductor and academic teacher. He founded the Vokalensemble Frankfurt, focused on contemporary music and winning competitions including Let the Peoples Sing. Since 1986, he has been director of the Bachchor Mainz, with a tradition of performing Bach cantatas in broadcast church services.
