Giovanni Battista Draghi, often referred to as Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, was an Italian composer, violinist and organist. His best-known works include his Stabat Mater and the opera La serva padrona. His compositions include operas and sacred music. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 26.

His research interests include the music of Eastern Europe, especially 20th century and contemporary music from Russia and the Balkans, the music of the Orthodox Church in the modern era, music and spirituality, music as theology, Serbian church music, the aesthetics of modernism and post-modernism and their intersection with Orthodox church music and the musical culture of the Mediterranean.
Karol Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, Op. 53, was composed in 1925 to 1926 for soprano, alto and baritone soloists, SATB choir, and orchestra. The work is divided into six movements and uses Jozef Janowski's (1865–1935) Polish translation of the Marian hymn, Stabat Mater.

Stabat Mater, Op. 58, B. 71, for soloists, choir and orchestra, is an extended sacred cantata by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, setting the Latin Stabat Mater sequence. The work was sketched in 1876 and completed in 1877. The composer's first major religious composition, it was premiered in Prague and soon also performed in Budapest and London. A performance in the Royal Albert Hall, conducted by the composer, established his international recognition. It has been regarded as one of his three most popular works and is performed and recorded frequently.

It was the opening film at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2013. The film was selected as part of the 2013 Hong Kong International Film Festival. The Weinstein Company acquired the international distribution rights for the film. The film was selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, making the January shortlist, but did not get the nomination. The film was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design at the 86th Academy Awards.
