Reception

In a review of Star Trek Adventures in Black Gate , Patrick Kanouse said:

Overall, Star Trek Adventures is an excellent system with rich but simple mechanics that support the feel of a Star Trek game. Modiphius [has] done a superb job, and any wishing to play in the Star Trek universe should take a look at this game system. I look forward to my own gaming group's continuing missions. [26]

In a 2024 review of the 2nd edition for Forbes, Rob Wieland wrote:

The original edition of Star Trek Adventures focused on older media in the franchise because it came out during something of a fallow period for the IP. This book includes content from the popular shows that have come out more recently [...] The second edition focuses more on feeling like Star Trek, which I already thought the first edition did well. [...] Star Trek Adventures Second Edition is a great jumping on point for new fans while also making changes to the rules fans of the original edition will find mostly painless. [4]

James Amey for Trek Central wrote:

it’s clear that the 2E rulebook was built with fan feedback at the forefront of the design process. [...] It’s leaps and bounds ahead of the previous book in the areas that count. Accessibility, readability and structure. [13]

A campaign setting is a setting for a tabletop role-playing game or wargame campaign. Most campaign settings are fictional worlds; however, some are historical or contemporary real-world locations. A campaign is a series of individual adventures, and a campaign setting is the world in which such adventures and campaigns take place. A campaign setting is typically designed for a specific game or a specific genre of game, though some come from existing media. There are numerous campaign settings available for purchase both in print and online. In addition, many game masters create their own, which are often called "homebrew" settings.

Living campaign Table-top role-playing game format

A living campaign, or shared campaign, is a gaming format within the table-top role-playing game community that provide the opportunity for play by an extended community within a shared universe. In contrast to traditional isolated role-playing games, living campaigns allow and encourage players to develop characters that can be played at games run by many different game masters, but which share a game world and campaign setting, as well as a plot line that is overseen by a central core of professional or volunteer editors and contributors. Many living campaigns serve a dual role of providing a creative outlet for highly involved volunteer contributors while also serving as a marketing tool for the publisher of the game system that is the focus of the living campaign. While the earliest living campaigns were run by the now defunct RPGA, many groups around the world run active living campaigns which are independent or sponsored by other publishers.
