Starship Group is a British digital media, entertainment and technology company based in Liverpool, UK. The development studio, based in the city's Baltic Triangle area, [1] specialises in creating next-generation original content across the games, entertainment, lifestyle, virtual reality and e-health sectors. The studio is an umbrella company housing several smaller studios each currently developing original content. [2]

The local authority is Liverpool City Council, the most populous local government district in the metropolitan county of Merseyside and the largest in the Liverpool City Region.

The Baltic Triangle is a development area in Liverpool city centre. Liverpool City Council define the area as being bounded by Liver Street, Park Lane, Parliament Street and Chaloner Street / Wapping. It is being redeveloped to become the home of the creative industries in Liverpool, England.

Founded by Evolution Studios and Digital Image Design founder Martin Kenwright, the studio was established in 2013. [3] [4]

Evolution Studios

Evolution Studios Ltd. was a British video game developer headquartered in Runcorn, Cheshire. The company was founded in 1999 by Martin Kenwright and Ian Hetherington, following the purchase of their studio Digital Image Design's publisher Ocean Software by Infogrames. Kenwright then left Digital Image Design with six members of staff to form Evolution Studios.

Digital Image Design (DID) was a British video game developer founded by Martin Kenwright and Phillip Allsopp in 1989. It was originally based in Runcorn, Cheshire in England. The company specialized in aircraft simulator games, mostly published by Ocean Software. DID expanded following the release of TFX, Inferno, and EF2000, and subsequently moved offices to Warrington. During this period, the technology from one of its products was spun off into a military laser designation simulator and they would also produce professional flight simulators for customers such as the Royal Air Force and British Airways.

Martin Kenwright is the founder of British-based virtual and augmented reality innovation company vTime Limited, digital media, entertainment and technology company Starship, and video game development studios Digital Image Design (DID) and Evolution Studios. He created seminal computer games such as F29 Retaliator and EF2000. He is also responsible for the World Rally Championship franchise and PlayStation 3 launch title, Motorstorm, along with its respective franchise.

Gathering together talent from renowned studios such as the now defunct Studio Liverpool and Bizarre Creations, including former director of Studio Liverpool Clemens Wangerin, alongside founding members from Evolution Studios, the founding team have collectively devised or delivered more than 69 games including PlayStation launch titles and AAA franchises such as MotorStorm, WipEout, Project Gotham Racing, Blur, James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Formula 1 and World Rally Championship. Bizarre Creations

Bizarre Creations Limited was a British video game development studio based in Liverpool, best known for their racing titles Metropolis Street Racer (Dreamcast) and the follow-up Project Gotham Racing series. The company has also developed games in other genres, including the Geometry Wars arcade series, plus third-person shooters Fur Fighters and The Club. Bizarre Creations was acquired by publisher Activision in 2007, and subsequently completed its racer Blur in May 2010.

MotorStorm is a 2006 racing video game developed by Evolution Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the Sony PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. Announced at E3 2005, the game was released in Japan on 14 December 2006 and worldwide in March 2007. MotorStorm has sold over 3 million copies. Two sequels were made, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in 2008, and MotorStorm: Apocalypse in 2011. Another game was also created, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. As of January 2012, the online multiplayer servers for the game have been permanently shut down.
