The State Normal School was a teaching college located in Athens, Georgia, United States, founded in 1891, whose function was later incorporated into the curricula of the University of Georgia. The institution first opened in a university-owned facility but later moved to its own facility on Prince Avenue in an area that became known as "Normaltown."[ citation needed ]
In 1932 the University of Georgia's Department of Education assumed control of training for teachers in the state. The normal school was taken over by the University of Georgia and became known as Coordinate College. It was used only as dormitories for freshmen and sophomore women. [1]
In the 1950s, the complex was taken over by the Navy for the Supply Corps School. The Navy turned over the property to the University of Georgia in 2010. [2] In January 2012, it became the UGA Health Sciences Campus, a partnership with the Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta. [3]
By 1907, there was also a normal school in Milledgeville, Georgia. [4]

Concord University is a public university in Athens, West Virginia. It was founded on February 28, 1872, when the West Virginia Legislature passed "an Act to locate a Branch State Normal School, in the town of Concord Church, in the County of Mercer". This normal school was founded by veterans of both the Union and the Confederacy, Concord is named for the ideal of "harmony and sweet fellowship".

The Carnegie Library Building is an historic building in Athens, Georgia. It was one of many such libraries donated by Andrew Carnegie which were named Carnegie Library after him. Funds were donated on March 5, 1905, and construction was completed in 1910 on the site of the State Normal School. On November 11, 1975, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
