Steelhouse Festival is an independent rock festival held annually in late July at Aberbeeg in South Wales, U.K.

Contents

History

Located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, the event has been running since 2011 and is supported by the Welsh Government.

The festival is held in a mountain location making it the highest-recorded official altitude for any music festival in the UK. [1]

Many acts have performed at the festival since its inception, particularly from the hard-rock, classic-rock and heavy-metal genres. Rock acts such as Reef, Feeder, Saxon, Europe, Rival Sons, Black Star Riders, Thunder, UFO, Glenn Hughes, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, Myles Kennedy, Skindred, [2] The Darkness, Airbourne, Black Stone Cherry, Those Damn Crows, Elegant Weapons, Kris Barras Band and Y&T have all appeared at one time or another.

The compere is Darren Redick, a presenter on Planet Rock.

Audiences in the region of around 6,000 have been recorded for daily attendances in recent years. [3]

Hammerfest is a music festival held annually in North Wales. From 2013, Hammerfest has moved to the Haven site in Pwllheli, Hafan y Môr Holiday Park as the festival has outgrown its original site at Pontin's Holiday Village, Prestatyn, Wales. It is not related to a music festival of the same name hosted by white supremacist groups. The festival is owned by emc3i Ltd, sponsored by the music magazine Metal Hammer and run by the organizers of the Hard Rock Hell festival. Because the festival is held at a holiday camp, the organizers can make use of pre-built venues and stages, and attendees can stay in the on-site accommodation. This enables the festival to be held during the winter/spring months when outdoor camping is not desirable.

Hard Rock Hell is a three day music festival held at Vauxhall Holiday resort, Great Yarmouth. It was previously held at Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, North Wales, and up until 2011 at Pontin's Holiday Village, Prestatyn, Wales. Holding the festival in a holiday camp gives the organisers pre-built venues and stages and because of the on-site accommodation allows them to hold a multi day festival over winter/spring months when outdoor camping is not desirable. The first edition of the festival was held at Butlins Holiday Camp, Minehead, England, but the festival relocated to its current location in 2008.

The Union are a British rock band formed in 2009 by Luke Morley, guitarist for Thunder, and Peter Shoulder, formerly of Winterville.

High Voltage was a music festival, held twice in Victoria Park, London. The event hosted artists from various strands of rock music, including classic rock, progressive rock, and heavy metal. The first festival was held on 24 and 25 July 2010. The second took place on 23 and 24 July 2011. The festival was not held in 2012 to avoid clashing with the London Olympics, and it did not return in 2013.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Black Star Riders</span> American hard rock band

Black Star Riders is a hard rock band formed in December 2012. The band began when members of the 2011–2012 line-up of Thin Lizzy decided to record new material, but chose not to release it under the Thin Lizzy name. While Thin Lizzy continues on an occasional basis, Black Star Riders is a full-time band, described as "the next step in the evolution of the Thin Lizzy story". The band's first album, All Hell Breaks Loose, was released on May 21, 2013, and the follow-up album, The Killer Instinct was released on February 20, 2015. The band's third album, Heavy Fire, was released on February 3, 2017, and reached number six on the UK Albums Chart.

This made them the first band from Llanelli to ever achieve a UK Top 40 Album.

The event showcases emerging Welsh musical talent, as well as a selection of international emerging acts, film screenings, and conference events.

Sam Wood is a British musician and songwriter, currently lead guitarist with hard rock bands Black Star Riders and Wayward Sons. After playing in several local bands in the Leeds area, he was asked to form Wayward Sons in 2017 by frontman Toby Jepson, and has since co-written and performed on three charting albums with the band. In November 2022, he joined Black Star Riders.
