Stefan Bengt Edberg is a Swedish former professional tennis player. A major proponent of the serve-and-volley style of tennis, he won six Grand Slam singles titles and three Grand Slam men's doubles titles between 1985 and 1996. He is one of only two men in the Open Era to have been ranked world No. 1 in both singles and doubles. He also won the Masters Grand Prix and was a part of the Swedish Davis Cup-winning team four times. In addition, he won four Masters Series titles, four Championship Series titles and the unofficial 1984 Olympic tournament, was ranked in the singles top 10 for ten successive years, and ranked nine years in the top 5. Jan Stefan Rehn is a Swedish football manager and former professional player who played as a midfielder. As a player he represented Djurgårdens IF, Everton, IFK Göteborg, and Lausanne Sports, winning a combined six Swedish Championships with the two Swedish clubs. He won 45 caps for the Sweden national team and represented his country at UEFA Euro 1992 and the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He also represented the Sweden Olympic team at the 1988 Summer Olympics.

The Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal is an annual award "for the most significant Swedish sports achievement of the year". It has been awarded by a jury led by the Swedish morning paper Svenska Dagbladet since 1925. According to its statutes the Medal may be awarded in November or December to either an individual sportsperson or a team. An individual can be awarded the Medal no more than twice, and to receive a second medal, that athlete must be "regarded a class of his own".
