Stephen Carlile (born 19 April 1978) is a British actor well known for starring as the villain Scar in the Broadway musical adaptation of the Disney film The Lion King . [1]
Born in Bath, Somerset, England, [2] Carlile was trained in acting at the Guildford School of Acting. [2]
Carlile has performed in many theatre works including the Broadway production of The Lion King as Scar, [3] Noël (National Opera House in Ireland), the West End production of The Go-Between as Viscount Trimingham, [4] as Captain Hook in the US national tour of Peter Pan 360, as Agustín Magaldi in Evita , lead tenor singing Springtime for Hitler in the West End production of The Producers , [1] Peter Pan as Smee, [5] The Wizard of Oz , My Fair Lady as Freddy Eynsford-Hill, [1] Next Door's Baby as Dickie O' Brien, [6] The Pirates of Penzance as Frederic, [7] Space Family Robinson [8] and The Phantom of the Opera .
Carlile has featured in several radio plays including Doctor Who , Songs from Jesus Christ Superstar and Vanity Fair .
Carlile also appeared in the 2008 film Brideshead Revisited . [9]

Plays-in-the-Park is a government-sponsored outdoor amphitheater located in Edison, New Jersey. Middlesex County's Plays-in-the-Park has been in existence since 1963. Generally, three full-scale musical productions run in the summer, from June to August. The Wizard of Oz is a 2011 musical based on the 1939 film of the same name in turn based on L. Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with a book adapted by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jeremy Sams. The musical uses the Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg songs from the film and includes some new songs and additional music by Lloyd Webber and additional lyrics by Tim Rice. It is the third stage musical adaptation of the film following the 1942 version for the St. Louis Municipal Opera and the 1987 version for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
