Stephen Franklin (born September 26, 1988) is an American football and former linebacker. He is the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach for the University of Central Missouri, a position he has held since 2023. He initially signed with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL) as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 NFL draft. He also played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Jacksonville Jaguars before moving onto the Sioux City Bandits of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL), Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League (IFL), and Kansas City Phantoms of the Champions Indoor Football (CIF).

Playing career

Franklin began his playing career at North Kansas City High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He played college football for Southern Illinois.

Franklin went undrafted following the 2011 NFL draft and signed with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL).^[1] He would be released and sign with the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars throughout the remainder of the season.^[2]^[3]

After three seasons away from football he joined the Sioux City Bandits of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) in 2014.^[4] He would play for the Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2015 and the Kansas City Phantoms of the Champions Indoor Football (CIF).

Coaching career

Franklin began his career with Unity Christian High School in 2018 where he served as the school's defensive coordinator.^[5] He then moved onto his alma mater in North Kansas City High School as the defensive line coach. Following his one year stint with North Kansas City he accepted a head coach position for Turner High School in 2020.

In 2021, Franklin joined Bethel as its inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.

On March 22, 2023, Franklin was hired by Central Missouri to be the team's linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.^[6]

Marvin Maurice Jones is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons during the 1990s and early 2000s. Jones played college football for the Florida State Seminoles and was recognized as a consensus All-American twice. He was selected in the first round of the 1993 NFL draft by the New York Jets and he played his entire professional career for the Jets. In 2018, Jones was the head coach for the Cedar Rapids Titans in the Indoor Football League (IFL) and served as head coach of the Omaha Beef in the Champions Indoor Football (CIF) from 2020-2022. Beginning in 2023, Jones will be the head coach of the IFL's Tulsa Oilers.

Champions Indoor Football (CIF) was a professional indoor American football minor league created in 2014 out of the merger between the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) and Lone Star Football League (LSFL), plus one team from the Indoor Football League and two expansion teams.

The 2015 Texas Revolution season was the team's sixteenth season as a professional indoor football franchise, third as the "Texas Revolution", and first as a member of Champions Indoor Football (CIF). The season MVP was Charles Dowdell of the Sioux City Bandits, and the Champions Bowl MVP was Drew Prohaska, also of the Bandits.

Ernesto Lacayo is an American football placekicker for the Duke City Gladiators of the Indoor Football League (IFL).

The 2014 Champions Indoor Football season was the second and final season of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). With players like Clemson's #20 Antonio Clay with the Kansas Koyotes. It was the result of the brainchild of Sioux City Bandits owner Bob Scott. The regular season began on Friday, February 28 when the Lincoln Haymakers lost to the Wichita Wild in Nebraska, 62–10. It finished on Saturday, June 7. The league champion was the Wichita Wild, who defeated the Sioux City Bandits by a score of 46–41 in the 2014 Champions Bowl. The season MVP was Rocky Hinds of the Wichita Wild. The CPIFL merged with the Lone Star Football League over the offseason, to create Champions Indoor Football (CIF).

Thomas Frevert is a former American football placekicker. He played college football at Northwest Missouri State. He has been a member of the Kansas City Renegades, Oklahoma Defenders, Salina Bombers and Philadelphia Soul.

The 2018 Champions Indoor Football season was the fourth season of the CIF. The regular season began on March 3, when the Wichita Force traveled to Salina Liberty, losing 17–15. The regular season concluded on June 10. This was the second season in which four teams per conference advanced to the Champions Bowl playoffs, with the top seed in each conference hosting their conference's fourth seed, and second seeds hosting third seeds in the first round.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Topeka Tropics</span> American indoor football team

The Topeka Tropics were a professional indoor football based in Topeka, Kansas, and played their home games at the Stormont Vail Events Center. The team originally folded after its inaugural 2022 season, but was renewed under new ownership before the 2023 season. The Tropics are the third indoor football team to be based in Topeka following the Topeka Knights/Kings (1999–2000) and the Kansas Koyotes (2003–2014).
