Steve Browning is an American former college baseball coach, currently serving as Athletic Director of the Southern Arkansas Muleriders. He was named to that position in the fall of 2012. [1]

Pre-collegiate coaching

A native of Sheridan, Arkansas, Browning played two seasons at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri before completing his eligibility at Southern Arkansas. Browning was a starter in the outfield during both his seasons at SAU and was a co-captain during his senior year. Browning hit .314 with 17 doubles, four home runs and 52 RBI in his two seasons for the Muleriders. [2] Following his successful baseball playing career, Browning began his coaching career as a student assistant at SAU.

Collegiate coaching career

Browning spent ten seasons serving as a student assistant, graduate assistant, and assistant coach before being named head coach following the 2010 season. During his time at SAU, he has been a part of nine NCAA Regional teams and help guide the Muleriders to four regular season championships and six conference tournament titles. As the head coach, Browning has led all four of his teams to the conference tournament title with each receiving a bid to the NCAA Division II baseball tournament. Browning has had five players drafted into Major League Baseball. He has coached 18 first-team all-conference players, 16 second-team and honorable mention All-Conference players, nine All-Region players, three All-American selections, three Conference Freshmen of the Year, one Conference Pitcher of the Year, and one Conference Player of the Year.

Following the conclusion of the 2016 baseball season, SAU president Dr. Trey Berry announced that Browning would assume the full-time Athletic Director position. [3]

    The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals currently play in the Southland Conference following a return from the Western Athletic Conference on July 11, 2022. They were one of four programs, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021, to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar left the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs.     The Bryant Bulldogs baseball team is the NCAA division 1 varsity intercollegiate baseball team of Bryant University, located in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The program participates a member of the America East Conference. The Bulldogs previously participated as members of the Northeast Conference. It plays at Conaty Park on the northern edge of Bryant's campus. Ryan Klosterman has been the program's head coach since the 2020 season.

    The Southern Arkansas Mulerider baseball team represents Southern Arkansas University in NCAA Division II college baseball. SAU has competed in the Great American Conference (GAC) since 2011. Prior to joining the GAC, SAU competed in the NAIA's Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference from 1950 until moving to the NCAA in 1996. Upon moving to the NCAA, SAU competed in the Western Division of the Gulf South Conference from 1996–2011. The Muleriders play their home games on campus at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.     Carlos James is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions baseball program. He was named to that position prior to the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season.

    Allen Gum is a former American baseball coach and player. He played college baseball at Crowder College from 1988 to 1989 before transferring to Southern Arkansas. He then served as the head coach of the Southern Arkansas Muleriders (2006–2010) and the Central Arkansas Bears (2011–2021).

    The Southern Arkansas Muleriders softball team represents Southern Arkansas University in NCAA Division II college softball. SAU has competed in the Great American Conference (GAC) since 2011. Upon reorganizing the team in 1999, SAU was a member of the Western Division of the Gulf South Conference until joining the GAC in 2011. The Muleriders play their home games on campus at Lady Mulerider Field. Jason Anderson is the current head coach.

    Steve Goodheart is a retired American college baseball coach, who served as head coach of the Southern Arkansas Muleriders baseball team from 1981–2003. During his career he led SAU to a 764–406–5 record, making him the second winningest coach all-time among Arkansas college baseball coaches. Goodheart trails only retired University of Arkansas coach Norm DeBriyn's 1,161 wins.

    Mike Godfrey is a former American college baseball coach who is currently serving as head coach of the Carthage (Missouri) High School baseball team.

    The South Florida Bulls baseball team is the intercollegiate men's baseball program representing the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. The team competes in the American Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I. Founded in 1966, the baseball team is one of the oldest teams at the university. The Bulls have captured eleven conference titles and 14 NCAA tournament appearances. The team plays their home games on campus at USF Baseball Stadium at Red McEwen Field and are coached by Billy Mohl.

    The Southern Arkansas men's basketball program is the college basketball program that represents Southern Arkansas University, competing in the Great American Conference. The program began as early as 1911. Though it has been sporadic, the Muleriders have had successes on the hardwood.
