Early life and education

Kung was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he attended Kempsville High School. He received a BA with High Distinction in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia, and an MFA in Motion Picture Producing from the Peter Stark Program at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. [3]

Career in film

Kung worked as an assistant producer on the film Mad Men [4] and associate producer on the film "The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez", starring Ernest Borgnine. [5] Kung's documentary, SPEW: The World of Competitive Debate, premiered at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. [6] He was the writer and director of the narrative feature, A Leading Man , [7] [8] which premiered at the Hawaii International Film Festival [9] [10] [11] It was the first film he had directed, [12] and it won awards for Best Drama, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Asians on Film Festival. [13] In 2014, PolicyMic listed Kung as one of six Asian-American Filmmakers shattering America's Asian Film Bias. [14] He is currently a director in the Disney ABC Directing Program for the 2016-2018 television seasons. [15]

Timothy Tau American novelist

Timothy Tau is a Taiwanese-American writer, engineer, attorney, law professor and filmmaker. Tau won the 2011 Hyphen Asian American Writers' Workshop Short Story Contest for his short story, "The Understudy", which was published in the Winter 2011 issue of Hyphen magazine, Issue No. 24, the "Survival Issue." Tau also won Second Prize in the 2010 Playboy College Fiction Contest for his short story, "Land of Origin". He has also directed a number of short films and music videos that have screened at various film festivals worldwide and on YouTube.

Dave Boyle American film director

Dave Boyle is an American director, writer, editor, and actor. The DisOrient Film Festival or the DisOrient Asian and Pacific Islander American Film Festival of Oregon, is a film festival that was started in 2006 and is based in Eugene, Oregon. According to their website and mission statement, the organization is "a grassroots and volunteer-run film festival committed to presenting honest portrayals of the diversity of the Asian and Pacific Islander American experience" and when "selecting new and exciting films for our festival" the W.E.B. Du Bois standard of "for us, by us, or about us" is used to select recent and undistributed works. It was founded in 2006 by Jason Mak.

The film had theatrical release at the Music Hall theater in Beverly Hills, California on September 26, 2014.
