Steven Kelly [1] (born Stephen Kenneth Kelly, 15 February 1955) is a businessman and Olympian best known for having competed three times in the Olympic Games. He represented the Bahamas as an Olympic sailor in the Summer Olympics of 1984, 1988 and 1992. [2] He is currently the CEO of Odyssey Aviation, [3] an international flight handling business which offers private aviation services. [4] [5]

Personal life

He was born in the Bahamas in 1955, the son of Basil T Kelly CBE and Joan Paula Kelly. He attended McDonogh School, in Baltimore and Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts. He went on to attend the University of Miami. [6] He is also the owner of the Bahamas Iron & Steel Company Limited. [7] [8] A general construction company he bought in 1981 and ran until 1996, when he went into the aviation industry and founded Odyssey Aviation where he currently works. In 2010, Steven was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award by the Rotary Club of Nassau in recognition of his longtime commitment to both the Rotary Club and the Bahamian community. [9]

Olympics

Steven has competed at three Olympic games, in the Mixed two person keelboat event. [10] In the Summer Olympics of 1984, he was the skipper of the Bahamas Olympic sailing team, ranking tenth in the results table. [11] In 1988 he competed again, under skipper Durward Knowles, they were placed 19th in the results table. He was skipper again in 1992 placed 17th. He has not won any Olympic medals.

Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias is an American sailor and CrossFit competitor. In 2008 she won an Olympic gold medal in the Laser Radial single handed sailing class. In 2009 and 2011, she won the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Laser Radial. She also won the women's world championship of the snipe class in 2010, and placed second in 2008.

Robert "Bobby" Hallam Symonette was a Bahamian yachtsman, businessman and politician.

Fernando Echávarri Erasun is a professional yachtsman in the Olympic Tornado class. Teaming with crew Antón Paz Blanco, he became the Spanish, European, World Champion, ISAF Sailor of the year in 2005, Olympic gold medallist at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games held in Qingdao.

Mark Jeffrey Reynolds is an American Star class sailor and Olympic champion. He has sailed Stars since age four, training with his father James Reynolds who was the 1971 World Champion.

Sir Durward Randolph Knowles was a sailor and Olympic champion from The Bahamas. He won the gold medal in the Star class at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, together with Cecil Cooke. He won the bronze medal in the same class at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. He had previously competed for the United Kingdom in the 1948 Olympics, finishing in 4th place in the Star class together with Sloane Elmo Farrington. Representing the Bahamas, Knowles also won gold in the 1959 Pan American Games star class. He is one of only five athletes who have competed in the Olympics over a span of 40 years, along with fencer Ivan Joseph Martin Osiier, sailor Magnus Konow, showjumper Ian Millar, and sailor Paul Elvstrøm.

Michael Mathieu is a retired Bahamian sprinter hailing from Freeport, Grand Bahama who specialized in the 200 metres and 400 metres. He was part of the Bahamian silver medal-winning team in the men's 4×400 metres relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, running second leg and recording a 44.0 split, and the gold medal-winning team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was also a part of second place relay team at the 2007 World Championships. He won the bronze medal in the 4x400 metres relay in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Andreas Hanakamp is an Austrian sailor who has competed in two Olympic Games as well many other sailing events including the 1996 Hong-Kong-Challenge, Bacardi Cup, Rolex Fastnet Race and most recently, is competing in the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race.

John Paul Kostecki is an American competitive sailor of Polish descent. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He started his sailing career in the San Francisco Bay, California.
