Stowmarket Town Council is a parish council for the parish of Stowmarket in Suffolk, England.

History

Formed in 1974 from the former Stowmarket Urban District Council, the Town Council serves a population of approximately 20,000 people in four wards. It is made up of 16 elected members backed up by a staff of over 30.

Its meetings usually take place on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in the historic John Milton Room, Milton House.

In 2014 it was criticised for trying to get money and land from Combs and Onehouse. [1] In 2022 it received the Quality Gold Award of which 1% of parish councils have received. [2]

The Norfolk County Council election took place across Norfolk on 2 May 2013, coinciding with local elections for all county councils in England. The results were announced the following day, Friday 3 May 2013. The result brought to an end 12 years of Conservative administration, who finished three seats short of a majority after losing 20 seats, leaving the Council in no overall control (NOC). UKIP and the Labour Party both made gains of 14 and 11 seats respectively. The 2011 Central Bedfordshire Council electionfor the Central Bedfordshire Council were held on 5 May 2011, along with other United Kingdom local elections. The whole council was up for election following boundary changes, with each successful candidate serving a four-year term of office, expiring in 2015.

Elections to Mid Bedfordshire District Council were held in May 2007. These were the last elections to council, with all 53 seats being up for election. Councillors elected would serve a two-year term, expiring in 2009, when Mid Bedfordshire District Council was replaced by Central Bedfordshire Council. The Conservative Party retained overall control of the council, winning 37 of 53 seats on the council. The Conservatives won 8 seats unopposed, as did an Independent candidate in one ward.

Emyr Currie-Jones CBE (1917–2008) was a local Labour Party politician in Cardiff, Wales. He was Chairman of South Glamorgan County Council and known for his role in introducing Welsh-language education in Cardiff. He has been described as "an outstanding example of a local councillor who steered Welsh-medium education through many a political storm."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Colchester City Council election</span> 2023 UK local government election

The 2023 Colchester City Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of Colchester City Council in Essex, England. This was on the same day as other local elections across England. There were 17 of the 51 seats on the council up for election, being the usual third of the council, with one seat available for each ward. This set of seats were last contested at the 2019 election.
