Gangsta rap or gangster rap is a style of hip hop music whose themes and lyrics primarily deal with the gangster lifestyle. The genre evolved from hardcore rap into a distinct form, pioneered in the mid-1980s by rappers such as Ice-T and popularized in the later part of the 1980s by rap groups like N.W.A. After the national attention that Ice-T and N.W.A attracted in form of hip hop, soon became the most commercially lucrative subgenre of hip hop. Many gangsta rap artists openly boast of their associations with various active street gangs as part of their artistic image, with the Crips and Bloods being the most commonly represented.
N.W.A was an American hip hop group from Compton, California. They were among the earliest and most significant popularizers and controversial figures of the gangsta rap subgenre, and are widely considered one of the greatest and most influential groups in the history of hip hop music.
O'Shea Jackson, called Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, and filmmaker. His lawless lyrics on N.W.A's 1988 album Straight Outta Compton led gangsta rap's outbreak. Yet his solo albums of 1990 and 1991 rank high in political rap. In 1991 and 1995, entering film, he starred in Boyz n the Hood and cocreated Friday.
Eric Lynn Wright, known professionally as Eazy-E, was an American rapper and rap mogul who propelled West Coast rap and gangsta rap by leading the group N.W.A and its label, Ruthless Records, pushing the boundaries of lyrical content.
Straight Outta Compton is the debut studio album by the rap group N.W.A, formed in Los Angeles county's City of Compton. Released on August 8, 1988, by Ruthless Records, founded by N.W.A leader Eazy-E, the album was produced by N.W.A's Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince, with lyrics written by N.W.A's Ice Cube and MC Ren with Ruthless rapper The D.O.C. Not merely depicting Compton's street violence, the lyrics repeatedly threaten to instead lead it by attacking peers and even police, men and women. The track "Fuck tha Police" drew an FBI agent's warning letter, which aided N.W.A's notoriety, the group calling itself "the world's most dangerous group."
Murder Was the Case is a 1994 short film and soundtrack album starring and performed by Snoop Doggy Dogg. The 18 minute film was directed by Dr. Dre and Fab Five Freddy and chronicles the fictional death of Snoop Dogg and his resurrection after making a deal with the Devil. The film's title comes from Snoop's song of the same name from his debut album, Doggystyle, which had been released a year earlier.
Horrorcore is a subgenre of hip hop music based on horror-themed and often darkly transgressive lyrical content and imagery. Its origins derived from certain hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap artists, such as the Geto Boys, which began to incorporate supernatural, occult, or psychological horror themes into their lyrics. Unlike most hardcore and gangsta rap artists, horrorcore artists often push the violent content and imagery in their lyrics beyond the realm of realistic urban violence, to the point where the violent lyrics become gruesome, ghoulish, unsettling, or slasher film- or splatter film-esque. While exaggerated violence and the supernatural are common in horrorcore, the genre also frequently presents more realistic yet still disturbing portrayals of mental illness and drug abuse. Some horrorcore artists eschew supernatural themes or exaggerated violence in favor of more subtle and dark psychological horror imagery and lyrics.
Aaron Tyler, better known by his stage name MC Eiht, is an American rapper and actor. Many of his songs are based on his life in Compton. His stage name was partly inspired by the numeral in KRS-One's name. He chose Eiht for its links to "hood culture", including Olde English 800 and .38 caliber firearms. He is the de facto leader of West Coast hip hop group Compton's Most Wanted, which also included fellow Compton-based rappers Boom Bam, Tha Chill, DJ Mike T, DJ Slip and Ant Capone. He is also known for his role as A-Wax in the 1993 film Menace II Society, as well as voicing the character Ryder in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

He is the co-founder of Generation Now, an Atlantic Records imprint with artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Skeme, and Jack Harlow on the roster. He initially gained recognition as the official DJ for Atlanta rapper T.I. and as a prominent mixtape DJ with his series, Gangsta Grillz. Numerous artists have appeared on DJ Drama's Gangsta Grillz tapes, including Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Ludacris, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, and many others. He was a co-founder of the Atlanta-based DJ and artist collective known as the Aphilliates. Drama has also released 5 studio albums, including, most recently, Quality Street Music 2 in 2016.
Shyne is the self-titled debut album by rapper Shyne. It was released by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' Bad Boy Records on September 26, 2000. Shyne had been hyped prior to the album's release as similar in style and delivery to the deceased Notorious B.I.G.. Shyne had also drawn unfavorable media attention for being convicted in June 2000 for his involvement in a nightclub shooting. Shyne was incarcerated at the time of this album's release. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200. It sold very well, eventually achieving Gold status. It contained fewer guest artists than most Bad Boy releases. The singles from the album, "Bad Boyz," "Bonnie & Shyne", and "That's Gangsta," were only moderate hits.
The Pioneers is the debut collaboration album by American rappers MC Eiht and Spice 1. The album was released June 29, 2004, on Real Talk Entertainment. It peaked at number 71 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Spice 1 and MC Eiht also produced a second album together for Real Talk Entertainment, titled Keep It Gangsta, released in 2006.
Souls on Ice is the third and final studio album by American rapper Seagram. It was released posthumously on August 12, 1997, by Rap-A-Lot/Noo Trybe Records, a year after Seagram's passing. Seagram was murdered by gunfire on July 31, 1996, while shielding his long-time friend Gangsta P.
Total Recall is the third album released by rapper, Luni Coleone. It was released on March 14, 2000 for the Ideal Music Group and was produced Luni Coleone, Killa Tay, Lo-Key, Hugh Heff and Hollis. This was Luni Coleone's using that name, as he had used the name "Lunasicc" for his first two albums. Total Recall peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. The album's title and cover pay homage to the film of the same name.

This is the discography of American hip-hop artist DJ Drama. His first album, Gangsta Grillz: The Album, was released in December 2007. It contained two singles: "5000 Ones", featuring Nelly, T.I., Yung Joc, Willie the Kid, Young Jeezy, Diddy and Twista, and "The Art of Storytellin' Part 4", featuring OutKast and Marsha Ambrosius. His second album was released two years later. On Gangsta Grillz: The Album there were again two singles. The first single is "Day Dreaming", featuring Akon, Snoop Dogg and T.I.. The second single of the album is "Ridiculous", featuring Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Lonnie Mac and OJ da Juiceman. Both singles weren't as successful as "5000 Ones" in the United States, but "Day Dreaming" did peak at #33 on the New Zealander RIANZ singles chart and at #59 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan singles chart. In 2011 DJ Drama released his third studio album, Third Power. It was his first album not to be released in the Gangsta Grillz series. The lead single of the album is "Oh My", featuring Fabolous, Roscoe Dash and Wiz Khalifa. It was Drama's first song in the Hot 100. It peaked at #95. Besides it peaked at #18 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #12 on the Hot Rap Songs. On March 1, 2012 DJ Drama announced the release of his fourth album: Quality Street Music. For the album DJ Drama released a new single: "We in This Bitch", featuring Young Jeezy, T.I., Ludacris and Future. It peaked at #68 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The next single, "My Moment, featuring 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, & Jeremih, peaked at #89 on the Hot 100 Singles chart, #24 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and #16 on the Hot Rap Songs. It becomes DJ Drama's most successful single to date.

Lola Mitchell, better known as her stage name Gangsta Boo or Lady Boo, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. She was the first female member of the Memphis-based hip hop group Three 6 Mafia. She left the group and label months after the release of her second album, Both Worlds *69, due to money disputes and issues regarding promotion of her album sometime in 2002.
