Stu Foord (born September 23, 1985) is a former Canadian football running back. He was originally signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Before joining the Roughriders, Foord played five years for the Regina Thunder of the Prairie Football Conference.

Football career

Amateur

Foord played high school football for Thom Collegiate in Regina. [1] After finishing his high school career, he played junior football for the Regina Thunder of the Prairie Football Conference. Foord was invited to the Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp after the 2006 season, but was cut due to a combination of on-field performance and off-field issues. [2] He returned to play for the Thunder during the 2007 season, where he was ranked among the PFC's top five in all-purpose yards, kick return yards, punt return yards, rushing, receiving and punt returns. [1] [2] Foord was named the Thunder's most valuable player after his last two seasons with the club. [1] [3]

Professional

After the 2007 season, Foord received another invitation to the Roughriders' training camp. After a much improved performance, on and off the field, he was placed on the team's waived / injured list, but was signed to the team's 42 man roster after an injury to Chris Szarka. [2] He made his debut with the Roughriders during Week 2 of the 2008 CFL season, against the BC Lions. [3] Foord was named the CFL's Canadian Player of the Week on September 24, 2008, for his performance against the BC Lions. He scored a touchdown on his first ever rushing attempt in the CFL, and also had a receiving touchdown later in the game. [4] Of his rushing touchdown, Foord said "I knew that I would be so jacked up that if anything was there, I was going to take it. I did that and now I can say my first touch was a touchdown." [5] Foord finished the 2008 season with three touchdowns (two rushing and one receiving). [3]

During the 2009 CFL season, Foord dressed for every Roughrider game, including the West Final and the Grey Cup. [3] He was one of the team's backup running backs, and also saw time on special teams, including returning kickoffs. [3] Foord scored a single rushing touchdown during the 2009 season. [3] In the offseason, Foord signed a new contract with the Roughriders. [6]

On February 16, 2012, Foord signed with the BC Lions as a free agent. [7]

Personal life

Foord lives in Regina year round. During the off-season, he trained with former Roughrider Dan Farthing. [3] Foord was planning to continue his football career and education at either the University of Regina or the University of Manitoba if he was unable to make the jump to the professional ranks after his junior football eligibility was exhausted. [8] During the offseason, prior to the 2010 CFL season, Foord vacationed in Mexico and learned to surf. [1] [3]

Jason Clermont is a former professional Canadian football slotback who retired after ten seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the BC Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Clermont started his professional career with the BC Lions after being selected in the 2002 CFL Draft. He played amateur football in his hometown of Regina, starting with the Regina Rams junior football club, and continuing with the team after they became affiliated with the University of Regina. While playing university football, Clermont was named an All-Star and All-Canadian, as well as the Most Valuable Player in the Canada West Conference and represented Western Canada as one of only 2 Canadian players in the East West Shrine Bowl in San Francisco. As a professional, Clermont's honours have included being named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2002, Most Outstanding Canadian in 2004 and 2007, as well as the Most Valuable Canadian at the 2004 Grey Cup. Clermont captured a Grey Cup championship with the Lions in 2006. He joined his hometown Roughriders at the start of the 2009 season after being released by the Lions and is now a member of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the University of Regina Hall of Fame and BC Lions Wall of Fame.

Casey J. Printers is a former professional American football, Canadian football and indoor football quarterback. Printers spent most of his professional career with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Kansas City Chiefs and Allen Wranglers.

Darian Bernard Durant is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He played college football at the University of North Carolina. By the end of his college career, he held school records for completion percentage, touchdowns, passing yards, total offense and completions. Durant was signed as a free agent by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2006, and became the club's full-time starting quarterback in 2009. He was named a CFL West Division All-Star in 2009 and 2013. Durant was the starting quarterback when the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the 101st Grey Cup in 2013 on their home field. Durant also played for the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. His brother Justin played in the National Football League as a linebacker.

He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the BC Lions. After being traded to the Edmonton Eskimos, he became the seventh Canadian running back since 1955 and the first since 2000 to rush for over 1,000 yards while also winning the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award. Messam played college football for Graceland University.

The 2013 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 56th season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Roughriders improved upon their 8–10 record from 2012 and made the playoffs for the second straight season, while hosting their first playoff game since 2010. After defeating the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders in the playoffs, the Roughriders qualified for their fourth Grey Cup appearance in seven years and first ever at their home stadium.
