Stuart Reid is a Scottish writer and the author of the Gorgeous George series of children's books.

Background

Reid lived in Dubai for two years, working as a manager for the Premier Inn hotel chain. [1] He managed the chain's first hotel outside Britain, a 300-room hotel in Dubai. [2] In 2009 Reid decided to return to Scotland with a plan to make a living writing books for children. [1]

Gorgeous George

Reid's first book Gorgeous George and the Giant Geriatric Generator was released in 2011. [2] It is the story of a fictitious town where people go missing, and the main character sets out to find them. [1] The book was illustrated by Calvin Innes. [3]

Innes, then still a student at university, decided not only to illustrate the book but to found a publishing company, My Little Big Town (MLBT), to publish it. [4] The company was launched in 2011 at the Enterprise Centre of Hull University. [4]

Performances

Reid promotes his books by speaking at schools and children's events, [1] [3] [5] and has performed at schools in Dubai, [1] [2] Hong Kong [6] and Australia. [7] According to The Advertiser newspaper in Adelaide, Australia, Reid "has found a clever way to sell more books" by travelling the festival circuit doing funny talks about books and writing for kids. [7] He has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Adelaide Fringe. [8] [7]

Personal life

Reid lives near Falkirk with his wife and their two daughters. [2]

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a 2017 American computer-animated superhero comedy film based on Dav Pilkey's children's novel series of the same name, produced by DreamWorks Animation and the last DreamWorks movie to be distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was directed by David Soren from a screenplay by Nicholas Stoller, and stars the voices of Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Thomas Middleditch and Nick Kroll. The film marked the 20th anniversary of the Captain Underpants series. In the film, two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins accidentally hypnotize their mean principal, Mr. Krupp, into thinking he is the titular "Captain Underpants", a superhero who fights crime while wearing only underwear and a cape, thinking he has superpowers. The movie loosely adapts the first, second, and fourth Captain Underpants books.
