Subaru Industrial EX engine

Last updated

The EX engine series from Subaru Industrial Power Products includes nine models total, with power ranges from 4.5 to 14 horsepower. All engines in this line are four-cycle, single-cylinder, air-cooled engines.

Technology

This line is Subaru's first to utilize chain-driven overhead cam (OHC) technology, and the first to utilize OHC technology in the industrial air-cooled small engine market. [1] The significance of Overhead Cam technology is that it's been proven to enhance engine performance. The technology allows the intake and exhaust valves being positioned for optimum engine performance, which offers lower resistance for the air/fuel mixture flow. Overhead Cam engines also have fewer moving parts and produce less mechanical noise than competitive technologies. They also offer better cooling performance to combat overheating. [2]

Models

With one exception, all engines in the EX line are carbureted. The 7 horsepower EX21 EFI is an electronic fuel injection engine. The engine line was first introduced with four models in 2001, and has grown to include nine models. [3]

Applications

The engines can be used on construction equipment such as soil compactors, pressure washers, generators, water pumps, air compressors, log splitters, lawn and turf seeders and chippers/shredders. The engines have also found to work well on go-karts. [4]

Cylinder head Component of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine

In an internal combustion engine, the cylinder head sits above the cylinders on top of the cylinder block. It closes in the top of the cylinder, forming the combustion chamber. This joint is sealed by a head gasket. In most engines, the head also provides space for the passages that feed air and fuel to the cylinder, and that allow the exhaust to escape. The head can also be a place to mount the valves, spark plugs, and fuel injectors.

Engine tuning

Engine tuning is the adjustment or modification of the internal combustion engine or Engine Control Unit (ECU) to yield optimal performance and increase the engine's power output, economy, or durability. These goals may be mutually exclusive; an engine may be de-tuned with respect to output power in exchange for better economy or longer engine life due to lessened stress on engine components.

Hemispherical combustion chamber

A hemispherical combustion chamber is a type of combustion chamber in a reciprocating internal combustion engine with a domed cylinder head in the approximate shape of a hemisphere. An engine featuring this type of hemispherical chamber is known as a hemi engine.

The GM Ecotec engine, also known by its codename L850, is a family of all-aluminium inline-four engines, displacing between 1.4 and 2.5 litres. While these engines were based on the GM Family II engine, the architecture was substantially re-engineered for the new Ecotec application produced since 2000. This engine family replaced the GM Family II engine, the GM 122 engine, the Saab H engine, and the Quad 4 engine. It is manufactured in multiple locations, to include Spring Hill Manufacturing, in Spring Hill, Tennessee while the engine block and cylinder heads are cast at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations in Saginaw, Michigan.

Northstar engine series Family of high performance 90° V engines produced by General Motors

The Northstar engine is a family of high-performance 90° V engines produced by General Motors between 1993 and 2011. Regarded as GM's most technically complex engine, the original double overhead cam, four valve per cylinder, aluminum block/aluminum head V8 design was developed by Oldsmobile R&D, but is most associated with Cadillac's Northstar series.

Overhead camshaft engine Valvetrain configuration

An overhead camshaft (OHC) engine is a piston engine where the camshaft is located in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber. This contrasts with earlier overhead valve engines (OHV), where the camshaft is located below the combustion chamber in the engine block.

Overhead valve engine Type of piston engine

An overhead valve (OHV) engine is a piston engine whose valves are located in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber. This contrasts with earlier flathead engines, where the valves were located below the combustion chamber in the engine block.

The Pontiac straight-6 engine is a family of inline-six cylinder automobile engines produced by the Pontiac Division of General Motors Corporation in numerous versions beginning in 1926.

Motorcycle engine Engine that powers a motorcycle

A motorcycle engine is an engine that powers a motorcycle. Motorcycle engines are typically two-stroke or four-stroke internal combustion engines, but other engine types, such as Wankels and electric motors, have been used.

Subaru 1000 Motor vehicle

The Subaru 1000 is the first and only front wheel drive Subaru produced by Fuji Heavy Industries that was in the Japanese government "compact car" classification starting in 1966. Previous Subaru models such as the Subaru 360 and the Sambar had been rear-engined, rear wheel drive kei cars.

Honda CG125

The Honda CG125 or Honda CG is a commuter motorcycle made by Honda of Japan. It was in production from 1976 to 2008 in Japan and has been in production since 1992 in Pakistan. The CG was originally manufactured in Japan, but the source for the European market was eventually moved to Brazil in 1985, and to Pakistan and Turkey in 1992 for the W and M models. The CG125 is powered by a 124 cc (7.6 cu in) four-stroke, overhead valve, single-cylinder engine that has changed little over the years.

Subaru EJ engine Motor vehicle engine

The Subaru EJ engine was a series of four-stroke automotive engines manufactured by Subaru. They were introduced in 1989, intended to succeed the previous Subaru EA engine. The EJ series was the mainstay of Subaru's engine line, with all engines of this series being 16-valve horizontal flat-fours, with configurations available for single, or double-overhead camshaft arrangements. Naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions are available, ranging from 96 to 320 hp. These engines are commonly used in light aircraft, kit cars and engine swaps into air-cooled Volkswagens, and are also popular as a swap into copy wasserboxer engined Volkswagen T3/Vanagon. Primary engineering on the EJ series was done by Masayuki Kodama, Takemasa Yamada and Shuji Sawafuji of Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's parent company.

Conveyor system Equipment used for conveying materials

A conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling equipment that moves materials from one location to another. Conveyors are especially useful in applications involving the transport of heavy or bulky materials. Conveyor systems allow quick and efficient transport for a wide variety of materials, which make them very popular in the material handling and packaging industries. They also have popular consumer applications, as they are often found in supermarkets and airports, constituting the final leg of item/ bag delivery to customers. Many kinds of conveying systems are available and are used according to the various needs of different industries. There are chain conveyors as well. Chain conveyors consist of enclosed tracks, I-Beam, towline, power & free, and hand pushed trolleys.

Subaru Industrial Power Products was the brand name for products manufactured by the Industrial Products division of Subaru Corporation, which were previously sold under the Robin, Robin-Subaru and Wisconsin Robin brand. The line was sold under the Subaru brand, used by Subaru's automobiles for greater brand recognition. Subaru decided to close down the Industrial business to focus on the car business, selling Subaru power to Yamaha.

The Subaru Industrial SX engine series from Subaru Industrial Power Products are designed specifically for use with snow throwers, also known as snow blower. The line includes three models, the 6 horsepower SX17, the 7 horsepower SX21 and the 9.5 horsepower SX30.

The V-Twin engine series from Subaru Industrial Power Products includes six models, with power ranges from 18 to 28 horsepower. These internal combustion engines feature a dual-cylinder design that resembles a “V”, a common and identifying feature of most V-twin engines.

The Wisconsin Motor Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, manufactured internal combustion engines between 1909 and 2018. In its early years Wisconsin made a full range of engines for automobiles, trucks, heavy construction machines, and maritime use. After 1930 it focused on small air-cooled engines widely used in agriculture and construction machines.
