Subhankar Das (Birth 13th March 1963 - Death 22nd May 2024) was an Indian poet, bookshop owner, actor and film producer. [1] [2]

Biography

His first book of poems, "Songs of the Damaged Brain", was published in 1987. Subhankar was an advocate and activist of the independent and underground voice in Bangla literature. He was the founder of Graffiti Kolkata, publisher of chapbooks, as well as home of the Graffiti Kolkata Broadside, an indie lit publication that has hosted numerous independent writers and artists. Das has written a total of twenty-four collections of poetry in Bangla. [3] His most recent collection, 'Thieves of the Wind' (with Catfish McDaris appears in English. [4] In addition, his work has appeared in such publications as Blink-Ink [5] [6]

Sisir Kumar Das (1936–2003) was a linguist, poet, playwright, translator, comparatist and a scholar of Indian literature. He is considered to be the "doyen of Indian literary historiographers." Das built an integrated history of Indian literature composed of many languages, a task multiple Indian literature scholars considered to be “a historian’s despair”. His three volumes A History of Indian Literature are credited for having devised previously absent methods for situating diverse Indian literary cultures in history. Das also edited the multi-volume English Writings of Rabindranath Tagore.

Between 2002 and 2004, Ariel Castro abducted Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus from the roads of Cleveland, Ohio and later held them captive in his home at 2207 Seymour Avenue in the city's Tremont neighborhood. All three women were imprisoned at Castro's home until 2013, when Berry successfully escaped with her six-year-old daughter, to whom she had given birth while captive, and contacted the police. Police rescued Knight and DeJesus, and arrested Castro hours later.

Bibhas Roy Chowdhury is a Bengali poet, novelist, and essayist. He is the author of more than twenty books including seven novels and numerous essays in various Bengali literary magazines. He received awards including Bangla Academy Award in 2013, Krittibas Award (1997), Binay Mazumdar Puraskar in 2020 by Paschimbanga Kabita Academy, and Nirmal Acharya Gold Medal for poetry. Some of his poems have been translated into English by Dr. Kiriti Sengupta, a well-known poet and translator, and published by Inner Child Press in association with Hawakal Publishers (Kolkata) as Poem Continuous: Reincarnated Expression (2014). He is also one of the chief advisers of the Bengali literary magazine, Kabita Ashram, and founder member and director of a theatrical troupe named Banga Natya Charcha Kendra. He now works in a publication house, and earns his daily bread by writing and editing.
