The Bengali-language film industry based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has been significant since the early 1970s. It is better known by the popular term Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood". The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.
Chowdhury Muhammad Shahriar Emon, known by his stage name Salman Shah, was a Bangladeshi film and television actor. Referred in the media as the "Prince of Bangladeshi Cinema" and the "First Superstar of Modern Dhallywood", he is commonly regarded as one of the most influential and iconic figures in Bangladesh's film history. Shah appeared in 27 films in a short acting career of three years, many of which were successful. He first gained attention for his debut film, Keyamat Theke Keyamat (1993), and in the following three years appeared in leading roles in a series of commercially successful films, including Bikkhobh, Denmohor, Shujon Shokhi, Shopner Thikana, Ei Ghor Ei Shongsar, Sotter Mrittu Nei and Anondo Osru which established him as one of the most sought after leading men in Bangladeshi cinema. Subsequently, he became the highest paid actor in the industry. Three of his films, Shopner Thikana, Sotter Mrittu Nei and Keyamat Theke Keyamat are among the top ten highest grossing films of all time in Dhallywood box office.

Ankush Hazra is an Indian actor, film producer, dancer and television personality in the Bengali film industry. He debuted in 2010 with the film Kellafate. He has also appeared in Khiladi, Kanamachi, Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay, Villain, Bibaho Obhijaan, Magic, and FIR. He launched the film production house Ankush Hazra Motion Pictures on 15 August 2022.
Sadik Mohammed Symon, popularly known as Symon Sadik, is a Bangladeshi film actor, assistant director, lyricist, model and politician. His films are predominantly in Dhallywood cinema. He made his debut in as a lead role in the Bangladeshi film Ji Hujur (2012) and he won Bioscope Borsho-Sera Awards for Best acting in Poramon (2013). He also won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in the film Jannat (2018).
Mamnun Hasan Emon is a Bangladeshi film actor and model. He made his debut with the 2007 film Daruchini Dip starring Riaz, Momo and Bindu.

She acted in Mujib: The Making of a Nation is a 2023 Bangladeshi-Indo epic biographical film which follows the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh and father of the nation directed by Shyam Benegal.
Kabuliwala is a drama film of 2006 directed by Kazi Hayat. It was based on "Kabuliwala", an 1892 short story written by Rabindranath Tagore. Kazi Hayat conducted the screenplay and dialogues. Faridur Reza Sagar and Ibn Hasan Khan jointly produced this film under the banner of Impress Telefilm Limited. Manna played the title role in this film as Rahmat. Dighi played the role of mini. Her real life parent Subrata Barua & Doyel, played the role of her father and mother in this film. It was the first time they acted together in a film.
Ifte Ara Dalia better known as Doyel, was an actress in the film industry of Bangladesh. In 1984, she debuted in her first film Chandranath. She has acted in almost 100 Bangladeshi films.
Lal Sobujer Sur is a 2016 Bangladeshi film directed by Mushfikur Rahman Guljar and starring Subrata Barua, Jhuna Chowdhury, Rafiqullah Selim, Shera Zaman and Omar Sani. The screenplay by Faridur Reza Sagar is based on his novel of the same name. Sagar also produced the film. The film is set in 1971 during the Bangladesh liberation war. It was released on 16 December 2016.
Joy Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi film actor. He started his career in 2012 with the film Ek Joban. He is best known for Hitman, Chini Bibi, Ajob Prem and Antor Jala.
Tungiparar Miya Bhai is a 2021 Bangladeshi biographical feature film. Its director is Selim Khan and producer is Pinky Akter. The film was made under the banner of Story Shapla Media.
Chachchu Amar Chachchu is 2010 Bangladeshi drama film directed by P.A. Kajal and produced by Mithun Chakraborty under the banner of Taaj Kothachitro. It features an ensemble cast including Shakib Khan, Apu Biswas, Abdur Razzak, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Shuchorita, Mizu Ahmed, Subrata, Rehana Jolly.
Lal Shari is a 2023 Bangladeshi romantic drama film with directed and screenplay by Bandhan Biswas and produced by Apu Biswas under the banner of her Apu-Joy Cholochitra. The film stars Symon Sadik, Apu Biswas, Sumit Sengupta, Dilruba Doyel, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Mahmudul Islam Mithu, Subrata, Don and others. It is marked debut of Apu Biswas as producer.
