The Sullivan Athletic Center is an athletic facility on the campus of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. The facility houses McGrath-Phillips Arena, a 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena.

Contents

It is the home arena for the women's volleyball team and part-time home for the women's basketball team. The facility also serves as the practice facility for the men's basketball team. [1]

History

The Sullivan Center, originally named the DePaul Athletic Center, opened in 2000 and was renamed in 2006. It replaced Alumni Hall. The DePaul Blue Demons athletic department is housed in the Sullivan Center.

McGrath-Phillips Arena

McGrath-Phillips Arena located in the Sullivan Athletic Center was the part-time home of the DePaul men's basketball team from 2000 to 2017 and is the practice facility for the team. [1] From 2000 to 2017, it was the full-time home of the DePaul women's basketball team and now serves as the part-time home for the women's team.

The women's volleyball team has played all their home games at McGrath-Phillips since its opening in 2000.

McGrath-Phillips Arena served as the host of the 2002 Conference USA women's basketball tournament, [2] 2007 National Invitation Tournament [1] and 2019 College Basketball Invitational Tournament. [3]

In 2010, the court in McGrath-Phillips was named after the longtime coach of the women's basketball team, Doug Bruno. [4]

The Samford Bulldogs are the 17 varsity teams that represent Samford University in NCAA Division I athletics. The men's basketball team made its first NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000.They were led by Reed Rawlings, Marc Salyers, and Chris Weaver. The women's basketball team made its initial NCAA tournament appearance in the 2011 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament and made its second consecutive appearance in the tournament in 2012. The baseball team made its first NCAA tournament appearance in the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament, reaching the finals of the Tallahassee Regional. Additionally, the softball team made its first NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2016. Richard Douglas Bruno is the head coach of the DePaul Blue Demons women's basketball team. In 2016, he completed his 30th season as head coach. Under his tenure, the Blue Demons have qualified for post-season competition play in 24 of his 33 completed seasons, including the last 17 seasons.

In their first season in the Big East, the Blue Demons went 27-5, 15-3 in conference play, to earn the 1 seed in the Big East Tournament. The Blue Demons, led by thirty-fourth year head coach Doug Bruno, played their home games at the Wintrust Arena and the McGrath-Phillips Arena as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 28–5, 15–3 in Big East play to finish in first place. DePaul won the Big East Conference tournament championship game over Marquette, 88–74. The NCAA Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
