Sultan Haider Ali Khan is a Pakistani politician who has been a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab since 2024.

Political career

In a by-election held in January 2018, Khan secured a seat in the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) from constituency PP-20 Chakwal-I. He received 75,934 votes, defeating Raja Tariq Mehmood Afzal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who secured 46,025 votes. This election followed the passing of Khan's father, Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Khan. [1]

He was re-elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency PP-20 (Chakwal-I) in 2024 Pakistani general election. [2] [3] [4]

General elections were held in Pakistan on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of the 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Imran Khan, the Pakistan Muslim League, led by Shehbaz Sharif, and the Pakistan People's Party, led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority; the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level, the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP); the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh; and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 8 February 2024 to elect members of the 12th Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On 5 August 2023, the results of the 2023 digital census were approved by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Therefore, elections have been delayed for several months, as new delimitations will be published on 14 December 2023, as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). On 2 November 2023, the ECP announced, in agreement with the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, that the elections would be held on 8 February 2024. This election was held concurrently with nationwide general elections and other provincial elections.
