The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. Founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman,with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology,BNP later came out as one of the two most dominant parties in Bangladesh,along with its archrival Awami League. Initially being a big tent centrist party,it moved towards more right-wing politics later.

The Jatiya Party is a centre-right,conservative,nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019,the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However,the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently,it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was another landslide victory for the Awami League-led Grand Alliance led by Sheikh Hasina. The elections were marred by violence,and were widely considered by opposition politicians and the international community to be rigged.
Chittagong massacre refers to a massacre of opposition activists in Chittagong on January 24 of 1988. The activists of Awami League who were rallying in the streets of Chittagong that day were attacked by the police during the regime of autocratic ruler Hussain Muhammad Ershad. The then Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mirza Rakibul Huda ordered the police to open fire on the rally that left at least 24 people dead.
The 1990 Mass Uprising,popularly known as '90's Anti-Authoritarian Movement,was a democratic movement that took place on 4 December and led to the fall of General Hussain Muhammad Ershad in Bangladesh. The uprising was the result of a series of popular protests that started from 10 October 1990 to topple General Ershad who came to power in 1982 by imposing martial law and replaced a democratically elected President through a bloodless coup.

Allegations included the misappropriation of around 20 million Bangladeshi taka for imaginary programs,embezzlement of 40.8 million BDT during the recruitment process of election commission staffs,purchasing the electronic voting machine at a higher price than the market rate,usage of extra cars by three election commissioners flouting rules and facilitating continuous and numerous election fraud by not investigating credible allegations of irregularities during the 11th Parliamentary Election and elections in Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations,Khulna City Corporation,and Gazipur City Corporation.
Search Committee,2022 is a committee set up by President Mohammad Abdul Hamid on 5 February 2022,to select qualified persons for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners of the 13th Bangladesh Election Commission. Obaidul Hassan is the chairman of this committee with 6 members. Although two such committees have been formed in Bangladesh before,this is the first committee formed by law. One week before the formation of this committee,the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act,2022 was passed. The ruling Awami League welcomed this committee. However,15 political parties,including the main opposition party BNP and Islami Andolan Bangladesh,refrain from being involved in all the activities of the committee. President Abdul Hamid formed Habibul Awal commission on 26 February with the recommendations of the committee.
Truth and Accountability Commission,also known as Truth Commission,was a Bangladesh government regulatory commission formed by the Fakhruddin Ahmed led Caretaker Government to investigate corruption and was eventually declared illegal by the courts. The Commission was head by Justice Habibur Rahman Khan.
Muhammed Sohul Hussain is a former Election Commissioner of Bangladesh during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis. In 2022,he was part of the search committee created to appoint new election commissioners.
