The landscape varies somewhat, with mostly chaparral canyons, arroyos and high desert, but dotted with meadows and oak and conifer forests. Near water sources, riparian environments and perennial aquatic plants attract native and migratory wildlife, such as at San Diego’s man-made Lake Cuyamaca. A generally warm and dry, inland-Mediterranean climate prevails over the forest, with the cooler months producing morning frost and snowfall. It is the southernmost U.S. National Forest of California. The area is administered by the U.S. Forest Service, a government agency within the United States Department of Agriculture, and is locally overseen by the Descanso, Palomar and Trabuco Ranger Districts.

Hanging Rock National Natural Landmark is a 4-acre (1.6 ha) site in Wabash County, Indiana that was designated a National Natural Landmark in May, 1986. The site, located on the southern bank of the Wabash River near the town of Lagro, contains an impressive natural exposure of fossilized coral reef dating from the Silurian Period some 400 million years ago. The limestone reef deposit rises 75 feet (23 m) above the river and is being undercut by it, giving the site its "hanging" appearance.

Sunset Reservoir is one of three terminal reservoirs in the Regional Water System in San Francisco, California. The reservoir, the city's largest, is located in the Sunset District at 24th Avenue and Ortega Street, and is owned and maintained by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Completed in 1960, the subterranean reservoir was constructed as an 11-acre (4.5 ha), 1,000 by 500 feet, concrete basin, now containing 720 floor-to-ceiling columns. With its maximum depth of 33 ft (10 m), the reservoir's capacity is 270 acre⋅ft (330,000 m3) with average daily flows of 46 acre-feet (57,000 m3) through 42-inch (1.1 m) inlet/outlet pipes.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the animation, voice acting, and music, but criticized its script, plot, and excessive use of too many plotlines all at once.
