The Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed Kangaroos, is an Australian rules football club which compete in the Western Region Football League since 1978. [2] They are based in the Melbourne suburb of Braybrook.

History

Formed as the Sunshine YCW Football Club in 1959 as a junior club. They joined the "YCW National Football Association" playing its first senior game was in 1963. After winning three premierships in the YCW NFA, the club transferred to the Footscray Districts Football League in 1978.

After losing consecutive Grand Finals in 1994 and 1995 in A2 grade the club was promoted to A1 grade (division 1) in 1996 and have remained in the top level of the competition ever since.

At the end of the 2000 season with the change in the League's name the club followed suit by dropping the YCW from its title.

The 1965 Victorian Football Association season was the 84th season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the fifth season of its second division. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Waverley Football Club, after it defeated Port Melbourne in the Grand Final on 26 September by twelve points; it was the first and only premiership ever won by Waverley in either division in its time in the Association, and it came in only its second season in Division 1. The Fitzroy Bulldogs was a proposed Australian rules football club which was to have formed from the merger between the Fitzroy Lions and the Footscray Bulldogs, and was to have competed in the Victorian Football League from 1990. The merger was arranged in October 1989 to avert the imminent financial collapse of the Footscray Football Club, but was abandoned within three weeks of its announcement, after Footscray supporters raised almost two million dollars and secured sponsorship and funding to ensure their club's solvency and viability into the future.
