Superengine are an Indie/Pop band originating from Perth, Western Australia. They have performed with bands such as Angus and Julia Stone, Charles Jenkins (Icecream Hands), Dappled Cities Fly, The Panda Band, Schvendes, Faith in Plastics, the Autumn Isles and Institut Polaire.

History

Formation

Superengine descended from the Perth group 'Mister Tickle' (1996–2002).

Early years

From 2003 to 2005, Superengine had only a demo recording and live shows to showcase their talent. Even so, the demo was played substantially on local radio stations, especially RTRFM, amongst others. Superengine performed at RTRFM's 'In the Pines' event in 2005 to critical acclaim. [1]

... A spin off of cutesy soul / funk / etc band Mr Tickle, Superengine are true to their past, but with a more Motown-flavoured addition to the already successful mix. Upbeat, major key funk is always going to have a 'party' vibe to it and to say how big the market is for this stuff in WA (Freo especially) Superengine's fanbase is already out there waiting for them.

Triangulation

The debut EP "Triangulation [2] [3] [4] (Independent/MGM Distribution - recorded at Studio Couch and produced by Shaun O'Callaghan) was released in November 2005 to a healthy dose of local airplay in Perth, Western Australia, and a smattering of playings on Triple J and the east coast of Australia. Triangulation as an EP opened the door to many gigs and a new focus on releasing a full length album. It "features two remixes by Perth sound-smiths Chrism and Fenris". [5]

Intermittent Lies

Released as a single in May 2007, "Intermittent Lies" received local and national airplay in Perth and Australia including RTRFM and Triple J. Zan Rowe's 'Morning's with Zan' on Triple J chose "Intermittent Lies" as the 'Catch of the Day'.

"The western state keeps producing top notch pop, from the likes of The Panda Band and Institut Polaire (to name but two). New band on the scene Superengine have just released a great sunny single too, filled with harmony and light and a rollicking backbeat. "Intermittent Lies" is a good sign of things to come, and is my catch of the day today." [6]

"Intermittent Lies" was added to Triple J rotation only two weeks after its release. [7]

Shadows Meet

The product of nearly a year of studio time (November 2006 to July 2007) at Bold Park Recording studios in Leederville, Shadows Meet [8] was released at the end of August 2007 through QStik Records with MGM Distribution. Shadows Meet is Superengine's first full-length album.

2008 Australia Tour

Superengine recently completed an Australian tour in early April 2008 - briefly visiting Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Epicure was an Australian progressive rock band formed in Ballarat, in 1996 as Pima's Little Finger. Their original line-up was Juan Alban on vocals and guitar, Tim Bignell on bass guitar, Michael Brown on guitar, Luke Cairnes on guitar and Dom Santamaria on drums. "Armies Against Me" and "Life Sentence", were picked up by national youth radio, Triple J. These appeared on The Goodbye Girl, their third album. Both tracks were listed on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2003, whilst the title track of their next extended play, Self Destruct in Five, made the Triple J Hottest 100, 2004.

The Panda Band are an indie pop band originating from Perth, Western Australia. They have a reputation for combining numerous musical genres. They have toured nationally as support acts for bands such as The Sleepy Jackson, Little Birdy, The Grates and Evermore.

Faker are an Australian alternative rock band, formed in 1996 by mainstay Nathan Hudson on lead vocals, piano and guitar. They have released three studio albums, Addicted Romantic, Be the Twilight and Get Loved. Their highest charting single, "This Heart Attack" (2007), peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The group disbanded in December 2013, but they announced their reformation in October 2020.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring are an Australian rock band formed in 2003. By 2004 their line-up was Daniel Young p.k.a. Danny Current on drums, his brother Michael Young p.k.a. Eddy Current on lead guitar and keyboards, Brendan Huntley p.k.a. Brendan Suppression on lead vocals and Brad Barry p.k.a. Rob Solid on bass guitar. The Good Fight For Harmony is the debut album by the Australian post-hardcore band Eleventh He Reaches London. The album was initially released independently by the band in December 2005; it was then re-released in August 2008 by Good Cop Bad Cop Records. The album was remastered and released on vinyl by Hobbledehoy Records in June 2012.

<i>No Way to Treat an Animal</i> 2017 EP by Spacey Jane

No Way to Treat an Animal is the debut extended play (EP) by Australian indie rock band Spacey Jane, which was issued independently on 16 November 2017. It was predominantly produced by Rob Grant in East Fremantle. Supported by the band's debut single "Still Running" and their breakthrough hit "Feeding the Family", the EP peaked at number 23 on the ARIA Charts in December 2020, three years after its release.
