Susan Cox (born 1952) is an American painter. She is completed work in oil, acrylic, and watercolor mediums. Her work focuses on City Scenes and life and Landscapes en plein air. Her work has been showcased across Europe and the United States. [2]
Susan Cox received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Fine Arts and Ceramics from California State University Long Beach. [3]
During her time as an emerging artist, Cox worked as an art gallery sales consultant, interior design apprentice, and floral designer. [4] Cox has also served as a juror for the Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach in 1999 & 2006. [5]
Cox's art focuses on oil mediums and plein-air painting. In Winter 2009, Cox was a professor of plein-air painting at the Oceanside Museum of Arts. [6] Her course was titled "A Breath of Fresh Air". In this course, she lectured on the fundamentals of plein-air painting, included an introduction to the genre, and its history. Students and Cox also spent time going out on location to paint. [7]
After moving to England with her family, she painted and exhibited her work in the London and Oxfordshire areas for 14 years. [8] Her work was included in the 1996 Federation of British Artists "Britain in Watercolours" exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. [9]
Cox's work has been published and featured in various national and regional publications. Orange Coast Magazine has featured Cox multiple times over the years including in the July 2010, September 2004, and September 2016 issues. [10]
In addition, ABC Wide World of Sports featured one of Cox's sports illustrations in an opening segment. Her work has been showcased in multiple California galleries and museums. Cox was twice awarded Honorable Mention in the San Clemente Plein-Air event. [11] In addition, she currently serves Youth Committee chairman for the San Clemente Art Association. [12]
Several hotels and country clubs in California, Nevada, and Pennsylvania have commissioned her work: Hyatt Hotel, Huntington Beach, CA, Silverstone Golf Resort, Las Vegas, NV, Blackhawk Golf Resort, Danville, CA, the Chart House Restaurant, Newport Beach, CA and the Tattersall Country Club, PA. Joe Goode is an American artist who attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles from 1959–1961. Originally born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Goode made a name for himself in Los Angeles through his cloud imagery and milk bottle paintings which were associated with the Pop Art movement. The artist is also closely associated with Light and Space, a West coast movement of the early 1960s. He currently creates and resides in Los Angeles, California.
Timothy J. Clark is an American artist best known for his large watercolor paintings of urban landscapes, still lifes, and interiors, and for his oil and watercolor portraits. His paintings and drawings are in the permanent collections of more than twenty art museums.
Roger Edward Kuntz was a highly accomplished Southern California landscape painter and a member of the Claremont Group of painters - professors and graduates of Pomona College, Scripps College, and the Claremont Graduate School. A figurative artist with an eye for abstract form, he won critical acclaim for striking compositions that transform an unusual array of subjects, including tennis players, domestic interiors, freeways, road signs, bathtubs and the Goodyear Blimp. A retrospective exhibition of his work, at the Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach, CA in 2009, was aptly titled "Roger Kuntz: The Shadow Between Representation and Abstraction". In the exhibition catalogue, curator Susan M. Anderson wrote: "Kuntz's work of the late 1950s and early 1960s quintessentially embodied the experimentation, fragmentation, and paradox in American culture of the time."
The terms California Impressionism and California Plein-Air Painting describe the large movement of 20th century California artists who worked out of doors, directly from nature in California, United States. Their work became popular in the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California in the first three decades after the turn of the 20th century. Considered to be a regional variation on American Impressionism, the California Impressionists are a subset of the California Plein-Air School.
Richard D. (Dick) Keyes was an American painter associated with abstract expressionism, impressionist landscapes and the California Plein-Air Painting revival. Keyes was a Professor Emeritus at Long Beach City College, where he taught life drawing and painting for 30 years, between 1961 and 1991. He continued to teach, lecture and demonstrate throughout his retirement, with groups such as the Huntington Beach Art League.
