The American Statistical Association (ASA) is the main professional organization for statisticians and related professionals in the United States. It was founded in Boston, Massachusetts on November 27, 1839, and is the second-oldest continuously operating professional society in the U.S. behind the Massachusetts Medical Society, founded in 1781). ASA services statisticians, quantitative scientists, and users of statistics across many academic areas and applications. The association publishes a variety of journals and sponsors several international conferences every year.
Wilfrid Joseph Dixon was an American mathematician and statistician. He made notable contributions to nonparametric statistics, statistical education and experimental design.
Deborah F. Swayne is an American statistician who worked for AT&T Labs and chaired the Section on Statistical Graphics of the American Statistical Association. She is a statistics professor, Bernard J. Dunn Eminent Scholar, and chair of the statistics department at George Mason University, and a former president of the Caucus for Women in Statistics.
Christine Michaela Anderson-Cook is a U.S. and Canadian statistician known for her work on the design of experiments, response surface methodology, reliability analysis in quality engineering, multiple objective optimization and decision-making, and the applications of statistics in nuclear forensics. She has published over 200 research articles in statistical, engineering and interdisciplinary journals. She also written on misunderstandings caused by "hidden jargon": technical terms in statistics that are difficult to distinguish from colloquial English.

She is also a user of the JMP statistical software package and its scripting language, and a coauthor of the book JSL Companion: Applications of the JMP® Scripting Language.
