Susan Lim Mey Lee is a Singaporean surgeon who in 1990 performed the first successful liver transplant in Singapore. [1]
Susan Lim was born in Singapore and was educated at Singapore Chinese Girls' School [2] and the Raffles Institution. [3] In 1974 she was awarded a scholarship under the Colombo Plan to study medicine at Monash University in Australia. From 1977, during her studies, she was resident at Trinity College attached to the University of Melbourne. [4]
She graduated from Monash University (MBBS (Hons) 1979). [5]
In 1984, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and she received a Gold Medal for being the most distinguished candidate in General Surgery in that year. [6] [7]
In 1985 she was awarded the Gulbenkian Scholarship to undertake a PhD at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, which she completed in 1988. [7]
In 1990, she performed Singapore’s first successful liver transplant , and was the second female doctor in the world to perform such a transplant. The patient celebrated her 50th birthday in 2015. [8]
In 2004, she was made a Fellow, Trinity College, University of Melbourne. [9] [10] [11]
In 2005, she was mentioned in the House of Representatives, Official Hansard (No.17, 2005 Monday 10 October 2005) for her care of the Australian victims of the Bali Bombing incident. [12]
In 2006, She was awarded the Monash University Distinguished Alumnus Award [6]
In 2007, the University of Newcastle awarded her an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Medicine. [13]
Dr Susan Lim communicates her vision for a Future of Companionship, based on loneliness and disruptive new technologies, which gives rise to a whole new breed of companions.
In 2017, she gave an INK talk in Hyderabad, India, in the session "Giant leaps; thrilling potential of AI and Robotics, on the topic of the "Future of Companionship" . [14]
She co-created the Lim Fantasy of Companionship for Piano and Orchestra recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Voices, Pianist Tedd Joselson, at Abbey Road Studios, [15] 19 November 2019. [16]

In February 2011, the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) presented a case to the Ministry of Health, in which Lim was accused of overcharging one of her patients, the sister of the Queen of Brunei, Pengiran Anak Hajah Damit Pg Pemancha Pg Anak Mohd Alam. The fees were approximately $24 million SGD and were charged for 110 treatment days from January to June 2007.
In August 2012, Lim was convicted of professional misconduct in respect of the overcharging, and was given a 3-year suspension from practising, fined $10,000 SGD and be censured in writing. Lim appealed her sentence and was allowed to continue practising, pending the outcome of the appeal.
On 28 June 2013, the appeal court dismissed her appeal and confirmed the sentence in all respects.
The SMC originally sought $1.33 million from Lim for the legal bills of the courtcase. The Singapore High Court found that the legal bills against her were inflated and reduced the amount from S$1.33 million to S$317,000. [22] The SMC appealed the decision and the courts eventually allowed for $825,000 in legal bills to be claimed from Lim. [23]

Chiam See Tong is a Singaporean retired politician. Formerly the secretary-general of the Singapore People's Party (SPP), he had been a Member of Parliament representing Potong Pasir Single Member Constituency (SMC) from 1984 to 2011, and had been the second longest-serving opposition Member of Parliament after Workers' Party former secretary-general Low Thia Khiang. Chiam retired after 39 years in politics at the age of 80 prior to the 2015 general election, citing health reasons. At the time of his retirement from politics, Chiam was the longest-serving de facto Leader of the Opposition until Low surpassed his record in 2018.
A Non-constituency Member(s) of Parliament (NCMP) is a member of a Singaporean opposition political party who, according to the Constitution and Parliamentary Elections Act, is declared to have been elected a Member of the Parliament of Singapore without constituency representation, despite having lost in a general election, by virtue of having been one of the best-performing losers. The Toa Payoh ritual murders took place in Singapore in 1981. On 25 January, the body of a nine-year-old girl was found in a bag next to the lift of a block of flats in the town of Toa Payoh, and two weeks later, a ten-year-old boy was found dead nearby. The murders were masterminded by Adrian Lim, a self-styled medium (fengshui), who had tricked scores of women into believing that he had supernatural powers. His victims offered money and sexual services in exchange for cures, beauty, and good fortune. Two of the women became his loyal assistants; Tan Mui Choo married him, and Hoe Kah Hong became one of his "holy wives". When the police investigated a rape charge filed by one of Lim's targets, he became furious and decided to kill children to derail the investigations. On each occasion, Hoe lured a child to Lim's flat where he or she was drugged and killed by the trio. Lim also sexually assaulted the girl before her death. The trio were arrested after the police found a trail of blood that led to their flat. Although the case name suggested ritualistic murders, the defendants said they did not conduct prayers, burning of joss sticks, ringing of bells, or any other rituals during the killings.
Joi Barua is an Indian singer and music composer. Born in Digboi, Assam, he started his career by singing advertising jingles and later did playback singing for Hindi, Assamese and Telugu films. Seet Ai Mee is a former Singaporean politician. A member of the country's governing People's Action Party (PAP), she served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bukit Gombak Single Member Constituency (SMC) from 1988 to 1991. In 1991, she was made the Acting Minister for Community Development. However she lost her seat in Parliament at the 1991 general election when she was defeated by Ling How Doong of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), and has not been active in politics since then.

Bukit Gombak Single Member Constituency is a defunct Single Member Constituency in the western area in Singapore. The seat consisted of Bukit Gombak New Town with is made up of Bukit Gombak MRT station and a few private housing estates such as the Hillview area. It was formed in 1988 which was crafted by 1984's Bukit Batok SMC. In the first election Dr Seet Ai Mee won against Ling How Doong on her first stint in politics, and was defeated 3 years later in 1991.

Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss is a Singaporean lawyer and former politician. She started her political career by joining the opposition Reform Party in 2009, but left in 2011 to join another opposition party, the National Solidarity Party (NSP). During the 2011 general election, she contested as a NSP candidate in Mountbatten SMC but lost to the People's Action Party (PAP) candidate Lim Biow Chuan after getting 41.38% of the vote. From October 2013 to January 2015, she served as the NSP's secretary-general before leaving to join another opposition party, the Singapore People's Party (SPP). She contested in Mountbatten SMC again during the 2015 general election as a SPP candidate, but lost to the PAP's Lim Biow Chuan again, garnering just 28.14% of the vote. She left the SPP in 2019 and was seen accompanying Workers' Party candidates on a walkabout in Marine Parade GRC before the 2020 general election.
