Sustainable Neighborhoods of North Central Austin is a civic organization based in the north central part of Austin, Texas. SN's mission is to ensure that redevelopment occurring on commercial arterials in North Central Austin is neighborhood-friendly.
According to the group's website, Sustainable Neighborhoods was founded in November 2007 by members of the VMU and land use teams of four North Central Austin neighborhood associations: Allandale, Crestview, North Shoal Creek, and Wooten. In 2009, members of the Highland Neighborhood Association also joined the organization. [1]
SN has hosted meetings with City of Austin policymakers to discuss planning of Burnet Rd, Lamar Blvd, Anderson Ln and Airport Blvd. Guests have included Council Member Chris Riley, Planning Commissioner Kathie Tovo, UT faculty, planners from the City of Austin and CapMetro, architects and developers. In April 2009, SN with six area neighborhood associations organized an Austin City Council candidate forum that focused on transit corridor planning issues, including minimum requirements for outdoor features. [3]
SN has identified eight "neighborhood centers" in North Central Austin, based on their mixed use zoning and proximity to planned or potential transit stations. These are: Burnet-Anderson, Burnet Farmer's Market, Burnet-2222, Burnet-North Loop, Lamar-Anderson, Crestview Station, Lamar-2222, Highland Mall. Six of these districts have Vertical Mixed Use (VMU) zoning. SN is seeking minimum standards for public open space in VMU districts similar to that called for with transit-oriented development (TOD) zoning.
SN in 2009 identified the Crestview-Highland segment of CapMetro's Rails with Trails project as its "Project of the Year". [4]
SN in October 2010 organized a tree-planting at Lamar Middle School, implementing a part of the school's Safe Routes to School plan. [5] [6]

The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, officially stylized as CapMetro, is a public transportation provider located in Austin, Texas. It operates bus, paratransit services and a commuter rail system known as the Capital MetroRail in Austin and several suburbs in Travis and Williamson counties. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 21,145,300, or about 80,900 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023.
Capital MetroRail is a hybrid rail system that serves the Greater Austin area in Texas and is owned by Capital Metro, Austin's primary public transportation provider. The Red Line is Capital Metro's first and currently only rail line, and connects Downtown Austin with Austin's northwestern suburbs. The line operates on 32 miles (51 km) of existing freight tracks, and serves nine stations. After a series of delays, Capital MetroRail was inaugurated in March 2010. Capital Metro added Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening regularly scheduled service on March 23, 2012. In 2022, the line had a ridership of 466,800, or about 1,500 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023.

Crestview is a Capital MetroRail commuter rail station and Capital MetroRapid bus rapid transit station in Austin, Texas. It is at the edge of the Crestview neighborhood of North Austin, at the corner of Airport Boulevard and North Lamar Boulevard. The North Lamar Transit Center is one mile (1.6 km) north of the station, and the Highland Mall Transit Center is 1⁄2 mile (0.8 km) to the southeast. There is no on-site parking at the Crestview station. Riders must park at the North Lamar Transit center and take buses 1 or 801 south to the train. With Project Connect, the Blue and Orange Lines will have a connection to this station.

It has several categories of routes: Local, Flyer and Limited, Feeder, Crosstown, Special services and UT Shuttles. Capital Metro also operates an express bus service, MetroExpress, and a bus rapid transit service, MetroRapid, in addition to the agency's commuter rail service, MetroRail. In 2022, the bus system had a ridership of 19,590,700, or about 74,700 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023.
