Sustainable Neighborhoods of North Central Austin is a civic organization based in the north central part of Austin, Texas. SN's mission is to ensure that redevelopment occurring on commercial arterials in North Central Austin is neighborhood-friendly.
According to the group's website, Sustainable Neighborhoods was founded in November 2007 by members of the VMU and land use teams of four North Central Austin neighborhood associations: Allandale, Crestview, North Shoal Creek, and Wooten. In 2009, members of the Highland Neighborhood Association also joined the organization. [1]
SN has hosted meetings with City of Austin policymakers to discuss planning of Burnet Rd, Lamar Blvd, Anderson Ln and Airport Blvd. Guests have included Council Member Chris Riley, Planning Commissioner Kathie Tovo, UT faculty, planners from the City of Austin and CapMetro, architects and developers. In April 2009, SN with six area neighborhood associations organized an Austin City Council candidate forum that focused on transit corridor planning issues, including minimum requirements for outdoor features. [3]
SN has identified eight "neighborhood centers" in North Central Austin, based on their mixed use zoning and proximity to planned or potential transit stations. These are: Burnet-Anderson, Burnet Farmer's Market, Burnet-2222, Burnet-North Loop, Lamar-Anderson, Crestview Station, Lamar-2222, Highland Mall. Six of these districts have Vertical Mixed Use (VMU) zoning. SN is seeking minimum standards for public open space in VMU districts similar to that called for with transit-oriented development (TOD) zoning.
SN in 2009 identified the Crestview-Highland segment of CapMetro's Rails with Trails project as its "Project of the Year". [4]
SN in October 2010 organized a tree-planting at Lamar Middle School, implementing a part of the school's Safe Routes to School plan. [5] [6]
In 2012, SN has cooperated with CapMetro in planting tree seedlings in plastic buckets near bus stops. [7] [8]
The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, officially stylized as CapMetro, is a public transportation provider located in Austin, Texas. It operates bus, paratransit services and a hybrid rail system known as CapMetro Rail in Austin and several suburbs in Travis and Williamson counties. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 25,229,400, or about 83,300 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
CapMetro Rail is a hybrid rail system that serves the Greater Austin area in Texas and is owned by CapMetro, Austin's primary public transportation provider. The Red Line is CapMetro's first and currently only rail line, and connects Downtown Austin with Austin's northwestern suburbs. The line operates on 32 miles (51 km) of existing freight tracks, and serves 10 stations. After a series of delays, CapMetro Rail was inaugurated in March 2010. CapMetro added Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening regularly scheduled service on March 23, 2012. In 2023, the line had a ridership of 485,400, or about 1,600 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.

Spur 69 is a 1.2-mile (1.9 km), unsigned, four-lane state highway spur in Austin, Texas, United States, that connects Ranch to Market Road 2222 (RM 2222) and Lamar Boulevard with Interstate 35 (I-35) and U.S.Route 290 (US 290). It is part of Koenig Lane and is signed over its entire length as RM 2222, rather than as Spur 69.

It is at the edge of the Crestview neighborhood of North Austin, at the corner of Airport Boulevard and North Lamar Boulevard. The North Lamar Transit Center is one mile (1.6 km) north of the station, and the Highland Mall Transit Center is 1⁄2 mile (0.8 km) to the southeast. There is no on-site parking at the Crestview station. Riders must park at the North Lamar Transit center and take buses 1 or 801 south to the train. With Project Connect, the Blue and Orange Lines will have a connection to this station.
