Swearin' is a Philadelphia-based musical group made up of singer/guitarist Allison Crutchfield, singer/guitarist Kyle Gilbride, bassist Keith Spencer and drummer Jeff Bolt. [1] They released two albums and an EP. [2] The band split in 2015 and Crutchfield embarked on a solo career. In November 2017, Swearin' announced that they had reunited and would go on tour in support of Superchunk in 2018. [3]

History

Born in 1989, Allison Crutchfield and her twin sister Katie Crutchfield formed their first musical group, the Ackleys, in their native Alabama in 2004. [4] [5] They recorded one self-titled album and an EP, Forget Forget, Derive Derive. [6] After three years, they formed the band P.S. Eliot in 2007 and released two albums, Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds (2009), [7] [8] and Sadie (2011) both on Salinas Records. [9] They disbanded in 2011, [10] and Allison Crutchfield moved to New York where she formed Swearin' with Kyle Gilbride, previously of Big Soda. [1] Katie Crutchfield remained in Alabama and performed solo under the name Waxahatchee. [11] Both groups would often tour together. [12]

Swearin' recorded a demo EP, What a Dump, in 2011. [13] They released their debut album Swearin' on Salinas Records in 2012, followed by Surfing Strange in 2013. [14] Salinas released What a Dump in 2014. [13]

Band members Allison Crutchfield, Kyle Gilbride and Keith Spencer all contributed to Waxahatchee's second studio album, Cerulean Salt (2013).

In February 2015, Swearin' broke up, with band members Allison Crutchfield and Kyle Gilbride ending their relationship that same year. [15] Crutchfield toured with her sister's band throughout the year while working on new material. [16] She signed to Merge Records in July 2016 and embarked on a solo tour in October of that year. [17]

In January 2017, Crutchfield released a solo album, Tourist in This Town , produced by Jeff Zeigler. [12] She described the record as "visceral, and a huge part of me processing these changes that I was going through". [16] The album was preceded by the single "I Don't Ever Wanna Leave California". [18]

In July 2018 Swearin’ announced their first new album in five years, Fall Into the Sun, would be released on Merge Records with single “Grow Into a Ghost”. [19]

The Execution of All Things is the second full-length album released by Los Angeles-based indie pop band Rilo Kiley. Expanding on their previous musical sound that mostly incorporated guitars, vocals, percussion and pianos, the album contains heavy electronica sampling mixed into the songs in a rather unusual and displaced-sounding way. Also, unlike their previous tracks which were written in very traditional manners, the lyrics to the songs on Execution are very wordy and read like prose. Musically, the record has a very sunny disposition, with bouncing bass lines and simple melodies complemented by lead singer Jenny Lewis's vocal style, but the upbeat music is generally counterpointed by the often dark and morose subject matter that the lyrics reference. The album was released by Saddle Creek Records in Omaha, Nebraska, and the aforementioned features show the influence of that studio's associated Omaha Sound. It was recorded at Presto! in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The New York Times' Jon Caramanica described the album as "hops among various stripes of punk and ’90s indie rock." He also said that on the album, "There are heavy echoes of riot grrrl, especially on “Shrinking Violet,” on which Allison is ferocious: “Your idea of a good time/is my idea of a violent crime.”"

Salinas Records is a Detroit, Michigan-based punk rock record label established in 2003 by Marco Reosti. Reosti initially did not have any intentions to start a label, only aiming to release a 7-inch for his own band. He put the name of author John Steinbeck's hometown on the back cover, inadvertently providing a company name for future releases.

Out in the Storm is the fourth studio album by Katie Crutchfield's band Waxahatchee, released on July 14, 2017 through Merge. It features her sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, as well as Katie Harkin, Katherine Simonetti, and Ashley Arnwine. Dinosaur Jr./Sonic Youth producer John Agnello recorded the album live. The album was released digitally, on vinyl and compact disc.

Katie Ellen are an American punk band based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were formed in 2015 by Anika Pyle and Dan Frelly after the dissolution of their previous band Chumped. They have released a 7" single, an EP and an album, Cowgirl Blues in 2017, all on Lauren Records.
