Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. It deemphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Funk typically consists of a complex percussive groove with rhythm instruments playing interlocking grooves that create a "hypnotic" and "danceable" feel. It uses the same richly colored extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, and dominant seventh chords with altered ninths and thirteenths.
The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul revue band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, who met and began collaborating as original cast members of Saturday Night Live.
Lubricated Goat are an Australian noise rock band which originally formed in 1986 by multi-instrumentalist Stu Spasm. They achieved brief notoriety in November 1988 for appearing nude on the ABC TV program Blah Blah Blah, wearing only their instruments and shoes. Mainly influenced by the Stooges and the Birthday Party, they are credited for playing a grimy, confrontational style of rock, which preceded grunge. They have issued five studio albums, Plays the Devil's Music (1987), Paddock of Love (1988), Psychedelicatessen (1990), Forces You Don't Understand (1994) and The Great Old Ones (2003).
Show-Biz Blues: Fleetwood Mac 1968 to 1970 is an album by British blues rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 2001. It was a compilation of outtakes and unreleased tracks from the band's early line-up, none of which had previously seen the light of day officially. Available on double vinyl LP and double CD, it came with a booklet of extensive notes and anecdotes, and was the companion release to The Vaudeville Years of Fleetwood Mac 1968–1970.
Fraternity were an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in 1970 and relocated to Adelaide in 1971. Former members include successive lead vocalists Bon Scott, John Swan, and his brother Jimmy Barnes. Their biggest local hit was a cover version of "Seasons of Change", which peaked at No. 1 in Adelaide, but nationally it was overrun by the original Blackfeather version. The group won the 1971 Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds with the prize being a free trip to London. Fraternity went through various line-ups and was renamed as Fang, Fraternity (again). In the late 70s some Fraternity former members created the bands Some Dream and Mickey Finn. Mickey Finn disbanded in 1992.
Download Series Volume 9 is a live album by the rock band Grateful Dead. It was released on January 3, 2006, as a digital download. The album features two complete concerts, spanning four discs, recorded on April 2 and 3, 1989 at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh.
The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions is an album by blues musician Howlin' Wolf released in 1971 on Chess Records, and on Rolling Stones Records in Britain. It was one of the first super session blues albums, setting a blues master among famous musicians from the second generation of rock and roll, in this case Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman. It peaked at #79 on the Billboard 200.
"These Arms of Mine" is a song written by soul musician Otis Redding. Redding was at that time a member of Pat Teacake's Band, consisting of lead guitarist Johnny Jenkins, bassist Pat Teacake and vocalist/songwriter Redding, who also served as driver for Jenkins, who did not have a driver's license. Atlantic Records artist representative Joe Galkin showed interest in Jenkins and proposed to send him to a studio. On the way to a gig, Redding had the opportunity to perform the songs "Hey Hey Baby" and "These Arms of Mine" as Jenkins and house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s ended their sets earlier than scheduled.
Rebel Road is the tenth solo album by vocalist/keyboardist/saxophonist Edgar Winter. It was released on July 8, 2008 by Airline Records. The album features lead and solo guitar work by Slash on the single "Rebel Road", vocals and harmonica by Clint Black on "The Power of Positive Drinking" and "On the Horns of a Dilemma", and lead and solo guitar by Edgar's brother Johnny Winter on "Rockin' the Blues". Winter dedicated "The Closer I Get" to his wife, Monique Winter, and "Peace and Love" to Ringo Starr.
"(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone" is a song by singer Aretha Franklin. Released from her Lady Soul album in 1968, the song was successful, debuting at number 31 and peaking at number 5 on the Hot 100 for five weeks, and spending three weeks at number 1 on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. The B-side, "Ain't No Way", was also a hit, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart.

Chain are an Australian blues band formed as The Chain in late 1968 with a line-up including guitarist and vocalist Phil Manning and lead vocalist Wendy Saddington. Saddington left in May 1969 and in September 1970 Matt Taylor joined on lead vocals and harmonica. During the 1990s they were referred to as Matt Taylor's Chain. Their single, "Black and Blue", is their only top twenty hit. It was written and recorded by the line-up of Manning, Taylor, Barry Harvey on drums and Barry Sullivan on bass guitar. The related album, Toward the Blues, followed in September and peaked in the top ten. Manfred Mann's Earth Band covered "Black and Blue" on their 1973 album Messin'.
The Rhythm and the Blues is the thirteenth solo studio album by Australian rock musician Jimmy Barnes, released through Liberation Music on 28 August 2009. The album was produced by Don Gehman in Los Angeles and peaked at number one on the Australian Albums Chart for two weeks. The Rhythm and the Blues was Barnes' ninth solo album to reach number one on the ARIA Charts, an all-time record for an Australian artist.
Road Trips Volume 4 Number 4 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Subtitled Spectrum 4–6–82, it includes the complete concert recorded on April 6, 1982, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It also includes seven songs recorded the previous night at the same venue. The 16th of the Road Trips series of archival albums, it was released as a three-disc CD on August 1, 2011.
Daxton Paul James Monaghan is an Australian musician and songwriter based on the Central Coast, New South Wales. He released numerous albums and performed regularly along the east coast. Daxton's music was aired on national radio stations, and been used on television soundtracks. His style has varied over his career and is predominantly southern blues/rock.

Christopher Mark Bailey was an Australian bass guitarist and vocalist. He was a member of various rock groups including Headband (1971–1974), The Angels, GANGgajang (1984–2013), and The Stetsons. Bailey died of throat cancer, aged 62.
James Taylor Move was a short-lived Australian/British psychedelic pop, progressive rock group from Adelaide. It was formed by Kevin Peek on guitar, Trevor Spencer on drums, Alan Tarney on organ, and Robert John Taylor on lead vocals and bass guitar.
"Call It Rhythm and Blues"/"Baby, Let Me In" is a single release by Australian rock and roll band The Basics. The single, featuring two non-album tracks, was the band's follow-up to their debut album Get Back; the band had toured heavily around Australia in the interim. The single was released on 20 August 2004, and features the band's original line-up of Kris Schroeder, Wally de Backer, and Michael Hubbard, although Hubbard had departed the band in June 2004, after the completion of the recording. Tim Heath had since joined the band on a permanent basis; hence, "Call It Rhythm and Blues/Baby, Let Me In" was the last Basics release to feature Michael Hubbard in any capacity.
Dave's Picks Volume 37 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete concert recorded on April 15, 1978, at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, as well as selections from the April 18 concert at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was released on January 29, 2021, in a limited edition of 25,000 copies.
