She mothers the men of the Regimental Band and, with their aid and the support of the kindly village cure, manages to persuade the Mayor to allow her to remain in the village, although he thinks she should go to an orphanage in Paris." Radio historian Richard Lane called him "Australian radio's first great writer and, many would say, Australian radio's greatest playwright ever."
