The men's 200 metre breaststroke heats and semifinals at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games took place on August 17 and the final took place on August 18 at the Singapore Sports School.
Singapore Sports School is a Specialised Independent School in Singapore that offers an integrated sports and academic programme for secondary and post-secondary students. The school was officially opened on 2 April 2004 by Goh Chok Tong, Singapore’s second Prime Minister. Singapore Sports School is under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

The Bahamas sent a delegation of athletes to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics, which were held in Beijing, People's Republic of China from 8 to 24 August 2008. Its Beijing appearance marked its fourteenth time at the Olympics since its début at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. The delegation included 25 athletes across four sports and nineteen distinct events. Its athletes advanced to semifinals in eight events and finals in five events, medaling in two of them. The Bahamian delegation was one of the largest sent between its début and 2008. The country's flag bearer was Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie.

On 13 August 2009, it was announced by the International Canoe Federation that the men's 500 m events would be replaced by 200 m events at the 2012 Summer Olympics with one of them being K-1 200 m for the women. The other events for men at 200 m will be C-1, C-2, and K-1.
