Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. The southern part includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region, it lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied equatorial climate. As of 2024, it has a population of over 49 million, of which 8.5 million live in the capital and largest city, Kampala.
The History of Uganda from 1979 to 1986 comprises the history of Uganda since the end of the dictatorship of Idi Amin. This period has seen the second rule of Milton Obote and the presidency of Yoweri Museveni since 1986, in which Ugandan politics have been dominated by the National Resistance Movement.
The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) provides national elections for a president and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term. The Parliament is composed of members directly elected to represent constituencies, and one woman representative for every district; as well representatives of special interest groups, including the army, youth, workers and persons with disabilities.

The fiscal issues of the government, such as taxation and loans need the sanction of the parliament, after appropriate debate. Parliament must confirm some Presidential nominations and may force a Minister to resign by passing a motion of censure.
Ruhakana Rugunda is a Ugandan physician and politician who was Prime Minister of Uganda from 2014 to 2021. He held a long series of cabinet posts under President Yoweri Museveni beginning in 1986. He served as Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1996, and Minister of Internal Affairs from 2003 to 2009. Subsequently, he was Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2009 to 2011 and Minister of Health from 2013 to 2014.
Jacob L'Okori Oulanyah was a Ugandan agricultural economist, lawyer, and politician, who served as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda from 2021 to 2022. He was elected to that position on 24 May 2021, after defeating his tenacious rival the then incumbent Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. He served as Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan parliament, from May 2011 until May 2021. Oulanyah was also the member of parliament representing the Omoro County constituency, Omoro District, Acholi sub-region, in the Uganda's Northern Region.
Gerald Majera Ssendaula is a retired Ugandan politician, and current banker and farmer. He is a former Cabinet Minister and MP Member of Parliament, representing Kingo sub-county, which became Lwengo District.
In Uganda, the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) is the leader of the largest political party in the Parliament of Uganda that is not in government. The Leader of the Opposition appoints and heads an alternative shadow cabinet whose duty it is to challenge and influence governmental actions and legislation on the floor of Parliament.
Atim Joy Ongom, is a Ugandan businesswoman and politician, who served as the Member of Parliament representing the Lira District Women Constituency in the 10th Parliament.
Sylvia Nayebale, is a Ugandan journalist, businesswoman and politician, who serves as the incumbent Member of Parliament representing the Gomba District Women Constituency in the 10th Ugandan Parliament. She was re-elected in 2021 in the same position.
The Acholi people are a Nilotic ethnic group of Luo peoples, found in Magwi County in South Sudan and Northern Uganda, including the districts of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Nwoya, Lamwo, Pader and Omoro District. The Acholi were estimated to number 2.3 million people and over 45,000 more were living in South Sudan in 2000.
Caroline Kamusiime is a Ugandan female legislator representing the people of Rukiga district as district woman member of parliament of Uganda. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) the party in political leadership in Uganda under the chairmanship of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni president of the republic of Uganda.

Victoria Rusoke Businge also known as Rusoke Victoria Businge is a Ugandan politician and teacher. Victoria served as the district Women's Representative of Kabarole District in the ninth Parliament of Uganda. She was re-elected as the member of the eleventh parliament of Uganda in the 2021 January elections. She is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement. In 2018, she was appointed and sworn in as the new member of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) by the Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.
Kiboijana Margaret N sometimes referred to as Kiboijana Margaret Namara is a Ugandan politician who served as the Member of Parliament of Uganda in the eighth and ninth Parliament of Uganda under the Forum for Democratic Change in Ibanda District.
Linda agnes Auma is a Ugandan politician and legislator, she represents the people of Lira district as woman member of parliament in the parliament of Uganda, which she entered on an independent ticket. Auma is the state minister for Gender and culture and the vice chairperson of the National women council. She is also the former Resident district commissioner (RDC) Of Amuru district.
Sylvia Bahireira Tumwekwase, known as Omushaho, is a Ugandan politician, legislator and nurse by profession. She is the woman Member of Parliament for Kamwenge District in the eleventh parliament of Uganda. She was also a member of Uganda's Parliamentary Health Committee from 2021 to 2022 and Government Assurances Committee.
Sarah AgutiNyangkori is a Ugandan social worker and legislator. She is a woman MP in the eleventh parliament representing Dokolo district affiliated to Uganda People's Congress.
