Tagwai Sambo (24 December 1936 - 14 June 2024) was the monarch of Asholyio (Moroa) Chiefdom with headquarters at Manchok, a Nigerian traditional state in southern Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is also known by the title "Chief of Moro'a (Asholyio)". [1]

Life

Sambo was born in Tsok (Manchok), Northern Region, British Nigeria (now Manchok, southern Kaduna State, Nigeria) on 24 December 1936. [2]

Kingship

Sambo was appointed Chief of Moroa and Member of the Jema’a Native Authority and also became a member, Northern House of Chiefs (later known as Kaduna State Council of Chiefs) in 1966.

On the crises in the Southern Kaduna area, HRH Sambo in December 2016 said he hoped the Kaduna State governor would make a speech about the events if call for calm and dialogue in anticipation for peace. [2]

Sambo became the founding chancellor of the Kaduna State University (KASU) when it was established and remained so from 1 January 2005 [3] until 11 March 2020 when the state governor, Nasir Elrufai, appointed the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to replace him as the school's Chancellor just a week after his banishment from Kano. Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He served as minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007. El-Rufai also served as director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He is a co-founding member of the ruling party All Progressives Congress.

Muhammadu Sanusi II, ; born 31 July 1961), known by the religious title Khalifa Sanusi II, is the spiritual leader (khalifa) of the Tijanniyah Sufi order in Nigeria and the emir of the ancient city-state of Kano. He is a member of the Dabo dynasty and was born in Kano in 1961 into the royal family as the grandson of Muhammadu Sanusi I. He succeeded his great-uncle Ado Bayero to the throne on 8 June 2014, assuming the regnal name Muhammadu Sanusi II. He spent most of his reign advocating for cultural reform in Northern Nigeria. In 2020, he was dethroned by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and was succeeded by his cousin Aminu Ado Bayero. On 23 May 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated him to the throne making him the 16th Fulani emir of Kano.

Kaura is a town and a Local Government Area in southern Kaduna State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Kaura in Asholyio (Moroa) Chiefdom. The Local Government Council is chaired by Matthias Siman. Other towns include: Manchok and Kagoro. It has an area of 461 km2 and a population of 174,626 at the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 801.

Muktar Ahmed Mohammed Aruwa was a Nigerian senator. He was first elected to the senate in 1999 as a representative of Kaduna State for the All People's Party (APP). Aruwa sat on several senate committees and opposed the privatization of public enterprises. He was re-elected in 2003 as a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the successor to the APP. He was involved in a dispute over committee appointments, claiming unfair play by the senate leadership. Aruwa's name was dropped from the ANPP party list for the 2007 election.

Kaduna State University is located in Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria. It was established in 2004. It has seven faculties with over 39 departments and a library that contains over 17,000 volumes of books. It has two campuses: Kafanchan and Kaduna.

Mukhtar Ramalan Yero is a Nigerian politician who served as the governor of Kaduna State from 2012 to 2015, following the death of Patrick Yakowa in a helicopter crash. He previously served as deputy governor from 2010 to 2012 and as Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance from 2007 to May 2010 when Yakowa named him deputy governor after he succeeded Namadi Sambo who became the vice president of Nigeria.

Kaduna Book and Arts Festival, also known as KABAFEST, is an annual literary, cultural, and art event in Kaduna State, Nigeria that took place for the first time in July, 2017. It was organized by Book Buzz Foundation, who also organizes the annual Aké Arts and Book Festival, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government and the Gusau Institute. It was also the first book festival that occurs annually in northern Nigeria.

Muhammad Sani Abdullahi popularly known as Dattijo is a Deputy Governor of Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Nigeria. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Muhammad as Deputy Governor on 15 September 2023. Dattijo served as a policy adviser at the Executive Office of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in New York. Dattijo formed the core team that developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dattijo resigned from this appointment to serve the Nigerian government as the Commissioner for Budget and Planning in Kaduna State. He published a book titled "Disruption Rethinking Governance to work for the Poor." On 2 July 2023.

Samuel Aruwan is a Nigerian journalist, and pioneer Commissioner for Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aminu Ado Bayero</span> Former Emir of Kano

Mal Aminu Ado Bayero, was the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano from the Fulani Sullubawa clan. He ascended the throne on 9 March 2020, following the deposition of his nephew Muhammad Sanusi II by Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He is the chancellor of the University of Calabar.

Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero is the eldest son of Ado Bayero and the brother of dethroned Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. He was the Chiroma of Kano from 1990 to 2015; and was titled Wambai of Kano by his brother.

His Royal Highness Maiwada Raphael Galadima was the monarch of Adara Chiefdom, a Nigerian traditional state in southern Kaduna State, Nigeria. He was known by the title Agom Adara III.

The Akurmi people, are an ethnic group in Kaduna and Kano States which speaks the T'kurmi language, an East Kainji language of Nigeria.

The 2015 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. Nasir el-Rufai of the APC took a clear lead against the incumbent governor and PDP, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero candidate in the election. The APC candidate won in 17 LGAs, while the PDP claimed the other six.

Ahmadu Bello University is a federal government research university located in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, opened in 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria.

The immediate origins of the genocidal killings in Southern Kaduna especially in the 2010s and early 2020s can be traced to the events that brought in Goodluck Jonathan into power in 2010 as the President of Nigeria, and escalated after the presidential election in 2011, which he won.
