The Bangla Academy is an autonomous institution funded by the Bangladesh government to foster the Bengali language, literature and culture, to develop and implement national language policy and to do original research in the Bengali language. Established in 1955, it is located in Burdwan House in Ramna, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.

Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.
Ferdousi Mazumder is a Bangladeshi film, television and stage actress. She was awarded Ekushey Padak (1998, Independence Day Award and Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh. As of 2009, on stage she has given over 1200 performances of about 35 plays, mostly for her own group, Theatre.
Shahriyar Kabir " is a Bangladeshi journalist, filmmaker, human rights activist, and author of more than 70 books focusing on human rights, communism, fundamentalism, history, and the Bangladesh war of independence. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1995.

Afroza Sultana Ratna is a Bangladeshi film actress. She earned a total of ten Bangladesh National Film Awards. Her national film award-winning roles were in Janani (1977), Sokhi Tumi Kar (1980), Dui Poisar Alta (1982), Nazma (1983), Bhat De (1984), Apeksha (1987), Ranga Bhabi (1989), Moroner Pore (1990) and Achena (1991). Across her three-decade-long career, she appeared in 299 films. She co-starred with Alamgir in 130 of them. In 1981, Shabana attended the 12th Moscow International Film Festival where she met actress Natalya Belokhvostikova. Shabana starred in the film Bhat De for which she received the National Film Award as Best Actress in 1984 and attended the Cannes Film Festival. Shabana served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and helped with vaccination campaigns against polio in Bangladesh in 1988 and 1989. She was photographed with fellow UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador actress, Audrey Hepburn, in 1989. In July 2017, Shabana was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Prime Minister for her contribution as an actress to the Bangladeshi Film Industry.
The Moviyana Film Society is one of the largest film culture oriented organisations in Bangladesh. It was established on 10 November 2006. It regularly arranges Film Screenings, Film Festivals, Film Appreciation course and other Film making related courses in different cities of Bangladesh. Film maker & Writer Belayat Hossain Mamun is the founder and incumbent president of this organization.
Qayyum Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi painter. Along with Zainul Abedin, Quamrul Hassan and Safiuddin Ahmed, he is considered as a first generation artist of Bangladesh. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1984 and the Independence Day Award in 2014 by the Government of Bangladesh.
Shamsunnahar Smrity, known by her stage name Pori Moni, is a Bangladeshi film actress. Her notable works includes Aro Bhalobashbo Tomay, Rokto, and Swapnajaal. She was listed in Forbes Asia’s "100 Digital Stars" magazine in December 2020.
Ek Cup Cha is a 2014 Bangladeshi romantic film directed by Noyeem Imtiaz Neyamul. It stars Ferdous Ahmed and Moushumi in the central roles, alongside Omar Sani, Rituparna Sengupta, father and daughter duo Alamgir and Akhi Alamgir, and Humayun Faridi. It is Faridi's final film, he died before it was released.
Matin Rahman is a Bangladeshi film director. He is also known for being a film writer and actor. His debut film was Lal Kajol. In 1993, he won Bangladesh National Film Awards as the Best Director for the film Andho Biswas.
Alamgir M. A. Kabir was a Bangladeshi police officer and recipient of the Independence Award (1978).
Begum Feroza Bari was a renowned Bangladeshi social worker and female leader. For her contributions on social welfare, she was awarded Bangladesh's Independence Day Award in 1982, the highest civilian award given by the Government of Bangladesh.
Bohipir or Bahipir is a Bengali language social drama written by Bangladeshi litterateur Syed Waliullah. It was first published in 1960 from Dhaka, East Pakistan. Before being published, Bohipir was awarded at a 1955 international conference of PEN Club in Dhaka.
The 2021 Independence Cup was the 11th edition of the Independence Cup, the main domestic annual top tier clubs football tournament organized by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). The fifteen participants were competed this edition in the tournament.
