The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was commissioned in 1631 by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall.

Wasan (和讃) are a type of Japanese Buddhist hymn composed in native Japanese language (wago). The word is meant to distinguish Japanese hymns from those composed in Sanskrit or Chinese. These works sing of the teachings and deeds of buddhas, bodhisattvas and soshi. They are composed in verses of alternating seven and five syllables, with each hymn consisting of four or more such verses. They were composed from the addition of a melody to a Buddhist service or teaching, and became popular starting in the Heian period. These hymns in colloquial Japanese played an important part in the spread of Buddhism throughout Japan and among the members of the lower classes. The Fusō Ryakki includes a hymn composed by Gyōki extolling the virtues of the Buddhist dharma, which is a valuable tool for understanding the function of wasan. Wasan fell out of popularity during the Edo period.

Asanee–Wasan is a Thai rock band fronted by brothers Asanee "Pom" and Wasan "Toe" Chotikul. Among the band's hits is a 1989 song that puts into verse the lengthy ceremonial name for Bangkok, "Krung Thep Mahanakhon" ("กรุงเทพมหานคร"). Zazen Wasan is a wasan, a type of Buddhist hymn written in Japanese, composed by Hakuin Ekaku, a Rōshi of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. Zazen Wasan was written in or around the year 1760, the topic of which is a praise of the virtues of Zazen, or "seated meditation". The Zazen Wasan also praises the virtues of original enlightenment and seeing one's own nature. Zazen Wasan is still chanted in Rinzai temples.
