Takudzwa Ngadziore

TakudzwaGodfreyNgadziore (born 1998) is a Zimbabwean politician from the Citizens Coalition for Change. In the 2023 Zimbabwean general election he was elected to the National Assembly from the youth quota for Harare Province, becoming the baby of the house. [1]

Biography

In 2020, Ngadziore was imprisoned for protesting as president of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU). [2] He was arrested and imprisoned again in 2021, along with two other ZINASU officers, for protesting the detention of another activist and former student leader. [3] In November 2023, Ngadziore was reportedly abducted and tortured. [4] This was just a fortnight before CCC activist Tapfumaneyi Masaya was kidnapped and murdered. [5]

Protests began in Zimbabwe on 14 January 2019 following a 130% increase in the price of fuel imposed by the government of Emmerson Mnangagwa. Thousands of Zimbabweans protested against the price increase, along with increasing levels of poverty, the poor state of the economy, and declining standards of living. The government responded with a coordinated crackdown that resulted in hundreds of arrests and multiple deaths. The protests stopped after three days; by 17 January, businesses started reopening as the protests ended.

By-elections will be held in Zimbabwe on 11 November 2023 and 9 December 2023 to fill vacancies in the National Assembly and in local government. The by-elections were triggered by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claimed to be the interim Secretary-General of the Citizens Coalition for Change, when he recalled nine constituency legislators, six proportional representative women’s quota and senators and seventeen councilors mainly from Bulawayo, one of the party's strongholds.
