Tatiana Marins Roque (born April 24, 1970) is a Brazilian historian of mathematics and politician.

Academic career

Roque is a professor at the Institute of Mathematics (IM) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), [1] with a Ph.D. in Production Engineering from the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute of Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (Coppe), also at UFRJ. [2] Her research area covers the historiography of mathematics, the relationship between history and mathematics education, and the history of differential equations and celestial mechanics theories at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. Her book História da matemática: uma visão crítica, desfazendo mitos e lendas (2012) was one of the winners of the 2013 Jabuti Award. [3] [4] [5]

She was a guest speaker at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, and served as the coordinator of UFRJ's Forum of Science and Culture  [ pt ] between 2019 and 2022. [6] [7]

Political career

In the 2018 elections, Roque ran as a candidate for Federal Deputy for the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) in Rio de Janeiro. She received 15,789 votes but was not elected. [8] In the 2022 elections, she ran for the same position under the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). [9] She received 30,764 votes but was not elected, becoming the first alternate to Eduardo Bandeira de Mello  [ pt ]. [10] [11]

In February 2023, she assumed the position of Secretary of Science and Technology of the city of Rio de Janeiro, being appointed by Mayor Eduardo Paes. [2] [12] [13]

SESI Mathematics is a project developed by FIRJAN System with the aim of improving the teaching of math for high school students. The program consists of a series of initiatives, from the organization of training courses for teachers and distribution of educational kits, to the providing of physical spaces for students of SESI Rio and SENAI Rio network, as well as for those from selected state schools. Although the project has the pretension of being expanded to other Brazilian states, nowadays it only operates in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia.

The 2022 Pernambuco state elections took place in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil on 2 October 2022. Voters elected a governor, vice governor, one senator, 25 representatives for the Chamber of Deputies, and 49 Legislative Assembly members. Paulo Câmara, the incumbent governor of Pernambuco, was reelected in the first round in 2018 Pernambuco gubernatorial election, with 1,918,219 votes, the equivalent to 50.70% of the valid votes. He wasn't eligible for a new term, since he ran for governor in 2014 and 2018. In a crowded field, former mayor of Caruaru Raquel Lyra (PSDB) defeated Federal Deputy Marília Arraes (Solidarity) by close to 20 points in the second round. She was inaugurated on 1 January 2023.
