Tekla Iita (born January 27, 1985) better known as Tequila (often stylized as TeQuila) is a Namibian singer. [1]

Music career

Tekla started her career as a featuring artist in, first appearing on Sunny Boy's sophomore breakthrough hit single "Serious", for his debut album Young, Black en Gifted . Her appearance on the song brought her more attention, as she began getting popular. [1] She appeared on two more songs from Young, Black en Gifted. Later that year, with the help from producer, Stalin Kapembe, she started recording her own songs. Her first single was "Who's Gonna Love You", which was released only for radio promotion.

In 2006, she won the Legal Shield Winna Mariba Song writing competition

In 2008, she acted in Vixen Hangula film titled Between Friends, that encourages condom use and encourages women to stand together. [1]

In 2009, Tekla took the industry by storm in both Namibia and South Africa when she lend her vocals on South African DJ Bojo Mojo's hit song "Thando Lwami", [2] for his album Session 6. The album sold more than 50 000 copies between Namibia and South Africa. Tekla and fellow Namibian singer Lady May would later receive a platinum awards for their appearance on the album, as 50 000 copies in South Africa represent a platinum plaque. [3]

In, 2012 she was nominated in 6 categories at for the Namibian Annual Music Awards of which she won 5, including "Best Female Artist of the Year". [4] [5]

Young, Black en Gifted, commonly referred to as Y.B.G., is Sunny Boy's debut album, released in December 2005 after he was signed to Mshasho Records in 2004. Young, Black en Gifted boosted Sunny's commercial popularity, thus making him a common household name among mainstream music fans. The album also established Sunny as one of the most profound lyrics in Namibia. Most of the tracks features a fusion of hip hop and kwaito. Production comes from The Dogg, Elvo and DJ Kboz.

The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony was the biggest awards ceremony in Namibia. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). They would award a NAMA trophy to musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry of Namibia. Along with the trophy, musicians receive sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes.

Lady May is a Namibian singer. She came to fame in 2004 with the release of her first album Kamali which won her her first award at the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards. Namundjebo is one of the most popular female singers in Namibia. Her music is also recognized beyond the Namibian border and she has been nominated and won several awards at the Channel O Music Video Awards.

Juanita du Plessis is a Namibian Afrikaans country singer. She became known for her song Ska-Rumba. Du Plessis' singing career began in 1998 with her debut album Juanita. That year she won the CMA awards as best singer, best songwriter and the Association's Award for outstanding achievement.

Eden is a South African pop band. Originally made up of Jay, Paulo, Johan, and Sean, the band debuted during the popular South African Aardklop Festival followed by a tour all over South Africa releasing their album In in 1997. After Sean Else left in 2006, the boy band continued as a trio. Since 2003, the band has released three more albums, Point of No Return (2003), Eden (2006) and Knieë Lam (2008), a live DVD Live at The Mardi Gras (2008) and a compilation album Dekade (2009). They are signed to Coleske Artists.
