Team Japan is a professional wrestling group that was brought together as a part of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's World X Cup Tournament.
Team Japan started as six-man team as team captain Nosawa from All Japan Pro Wrestling teamed with Osaka Pro Wrestling's Ebessan and Kamen competed in non-tournament exhibition match. They lost to Elix Skipper, Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin. For the World X-Cup event in May 2008, Nosawa dropped Ebessan and Kamen and replaced them with Mitsu Hirai Jr., Ryuji Hijikata and Taichi Ishikari, all of whom were like Nosawa from All Japan. They enjoyed some success in exhibitions and singles matches not related to the tournament itself, but failed to have any significant success in the actual tournament and were quickly eliminated, leaving Team Canada, Team Mexico, and Team USA for the finals which were held under Ultimate X rules.
After the X-Cup event, Nosawa teamed with fellow All Japan wrestler Kazushi Miyamoto for several months under the Team Japan name. They disappeared from TNA after Victory Road.
Team Japan returned to TNA for the TNA 2006 World X-Cup Tournament. On the March 11, 2006 episode of TNA Impact!, Mike Tenay said that Puma would be on Team Japan for the competition. Jushin Thunder Liger was shortly thereafter announced to be the captain of the team.
Rumored members of the team included Hiroshi Tanahashi, Black Tiger, and Tiger Mask. Oddly, the character of Black Tiger has always been that of a heel in Japan while Tiger Mask is the babyface. The characters are that of "twins" with Black Tiger being the "evil twin". They do not tag and this would have been considered an unusual decision for TNA to make. These were proven as nothing more than rumors, and none of the rumored competitors were included on the team.
Team Japan made its return at TNA Lockdown 2006, with members Hirooki Goto, Minoru Tanaka, and Black Tiger competing in an exhibition six man tag match against Team USA members Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Alex Shelley. Team Japan pulled out the win in light of miscommunication on the part of Team USA.
Liger was supposed to be a part of the exhibition competitions at Lockdown, as he was slated to face off with Christopher Daniels. Due to travel conflicts, Liger was unable to make the pay-per-view, and TNA had to alter the card, declaring Daniels' opponent to be a mystery competitor. The competitor was later announced to be Senshi.
Liger did, however, compete in a second round match against Petey Williams from Team Canada. Liger pulled out the win after a double underhook faceplant after teammates Hiroko Goto and Black Tiger interfered in the match.
Team Japan was heavily favored to win the 2006 World X-Cup in light of TNA's talent-swap agreement with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but to the surprise of many, the team finished in last place. It is speculated that this may be due to a lack of participation from Team Captain, Jushin Thunder Liger who only made on-screen appearances in the tournament during Sacrifice. All four members of the 2006 Team Japan were also members of Liger's heel Control Terrorism Unit (C.T.U.) stable from NJPW.
Team Japan returned to TNA Wrestling for the 2008 World X-Cup. Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino debuted on the June 12 edition of "Impact!" with a loss to The Motor City Machine Guns of Team TNA. Team Mexico would go on to win the World X Cup. American T. J. Perkins, performing as Puma, became the first wrestler to represent two different countries in the World X Cup, having wrestled as part of Team Mexico in 2006.

Keiichi Yamada, better known as Jushin Liger and later Jushin Thunder Liger, is a Japanese retired professional wrestler and mixed martial artist, currently signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He is the longest-tenured member of the NJPW roster, having wrestled for the company since his debut in 1984 until his retirement in January 2020. Throughout his career, which spanned three-and-a-half decades, he wrestled over 4,000 matches and performed in major events for various promotions across the globe.
Minoru Tanaka, also known by the ring names Heat and the mononymous Minoru, is a Japanese professional wrestler, shoot wrestler and mixed martial artist. He is currently signed to Gleat, predominantly performing in its G Prowrestling and Lidet UWF divisions; he also serves as Gleat's UWF Rules Technical Officer.
Yoshihiro Yamazaki is a Japanese professional wrestler, best known for being the fourth man to portray Tiger Mask. He currently works for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) where he is a former 6-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and 2-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. Having competed as Tiger Mask since 1995, he is the longest tenured incarnation of the character.
Osamu Matsuda is a Japanese professional wrestler who is best known for his work in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), and is better known by his stage name El Samurai.
Team USA is a wrestling faction brought together as part of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's X-Cup Tournaments, which involved a team of X Division contestants from various countries representing their nation in an international wrestling competition.

Black Tiger has been the persona used by seven different professional wrestlers in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as opponents of the four incarnations of Tiger Mask. The character is drawn from the original Japanese Tiger Mask anime. The trademark of the character is to always wear a mask and tights in an almost identical design to that of his perennial rival only with entirely black and silver coloring.

It was the third World X Cup Tournament and the last held as of 2024. The competition began on June 10, 2008 and concluded on July 13, 2008 at TNA's Victory Road pay-per-view (PPV) event.

Akinori Tsukioka is a Japanese professional wrestler better known as Kuishinbo Kamen, a masked clown character. Kuishinbo Kamen is Japanese for "Gluttonous Mask". For a while he was forced to give up the Kuishinbo Kamen character, instead he worked as "Super Robo K", a futuristic Robot character, but returned to the Kuishinbo Kamen identity later on.
Ryuji Hijikata is a Japanese professional wrestler also known under the ring name Toshizo. Hijikata is best known for his tenure in Battlarts and All Japan Pro Wrestling since 2002 where he is a former World Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Shigeo Okumura is a Japanese professional wrestler who works for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and is billed as Okumura. Okumura originally worked for Tokyo Pro Wrestling (TPW) and later on All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) in Japan but moved to Mexico in 2005 to work for CMLL full-time. Okumura usually teams up with wrestlers from Japan who visit CMLL, currently as a group known as La Ola Amarilla. Okumura and Yujiro won the 2009 version of the Gran Alternativa tournament.
La Ola Amarilla was a professional wrestling group, also known as a stable in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The group was founded in 2005 for Japanese-born wrestlers, often wrestlers touring CMLL through a talent-sharing agreement with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).
RISE was a professional wrestling stable that competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) that was active from 2007 until 2010. The group was founded and led by Shinsuke Nakamura. The group was the successor to the group "BLACK" which featured Nakamura as a co-leader with Masahiro Chono. At one point or another Hirooki Goto, Giant Bernard, Prince Devitt, Minoru, Travis Tomko, Milano Collection AT, Rick Fuller and Low Ki were members of the group. Members of RISE held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Tag Team Championship, IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship as well as winning the 2007 G1 Tag League. In 2009 several members left the group to join Great Bash Heel (GBH) and by early 2010 RISE was ended.
Super J-Cup: 4th Stage: Osaka Hurricane 2004 was the second Osaka Hurricane and the fourth Super J-Cup professional wrestling pay-per-view event, it was produced by Osaka Pro Wrestling on February 21, 2004, at Osaka-jō Hall in Osaka, Japan. The event was broadcast live on pay-per-view via SKY PerfecTV! direct broadcast satellite service. It was the fourth edition of the famous interpromotional junior heavyweight tournament Super J-Cup, featuring the best junior heavyweight wrestlers from Japan and marked the tenth anniversary of the inaugural Super J-Cup event held in 1994. It was a three-round single elimination tournament featuring eight wrestlers, marking the fewest participants in a Super J-Cup tournament ever.
Super J-Cup: 5th Stage – Land of Confusion was the fifth Super J-Cup professional wrestling single-elimination tournament produced by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). It was a two-night event taking place on December 22 and December 23, 2009 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The interpromotional tournament featured junior heavyweight wrestlers from various Japanese promotions, marking its return after a five-year hiatus, last held in 2004. This was the second time that NJPW was hosting the event, the first time being the inaugural tournament in 1994, while the 1995, 2000 and 2004 editions were hosted by different promotions.
Wrestle Kingdom 14 in Tokyo Dome was a two-night professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event took place on January 4 and 5, 2020, at the Tokyo Dome, in Tokyo, Japan. It was the 29th January 4 Tokyo Dome Show and the 14th promoted under the Wrestle Kingdom name; it was also the first time the event was held over two days, instead of taking place solely on January 4.
