The NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, sometimes referred to as Women's March Madness, is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in the United States, currently featuring 68 women's college basketball teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine the national championship.
Hooper Eblen Center, often called The Hoop by students, is a 9,280-seat multi-purpose arena in on the campus of Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee. Opened in 1977 and named for former TTU coach and professor Hooper Eblen, it is home to the TTU Golden Eagles basketball and volleyball teams. The building replaced Memorial Gym, a post-War gymnasium located on the quadrangle.
The Winthrop Eagles men's basketball team represents Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States and competes in the Big South Conference. The Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball team represents the Purple Aces of the University of Evansville, located in Evansville, Indiana, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. Steve Payne is an American college basketball coach. He currently is a Special Assistant to the Head Coach for the Cleveland State Vikings. Most recently he was the men's basketball coach at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, until his resignation following the conclusion of the 2018–2019 season. The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles are members of the Ohio Valley Conference and compete in the NCAA's Division I. Payne was appointed the head coach at Tennessee Tech on March 23, 2011, following the retirement of Mike Sutton. Payne had been an assistant to Sutton since the 2002–2003 season.

He played college basketball for the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and Ryerson Rams at what is now Toronto Metropolitan University.
The 2018–19 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles men's basketball team represented Tennessee Technological University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Eagles, led by eighth-year head coach Steve Payne, played their home games at the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tennessee as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 8–23 overall, 4–14 in OVC play to finish in last place and missed the conference tournament.
The 2019–20 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles men's basketball team represented Tennessee Technological University during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Eagles, led by first-year head coach John Pelphrey, played their home games at the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tennessee as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 9–22, 6–12 in OVC play to finish in ninth place. They failed to qualify for the OVC tournament.
