Lisa Raymond is an American retired professional tennis player who has achieved notable success in doubles tennis. Raymond has eleven Grand Slam titles to her name: six in women's doubles and five in mixed doubles. On June 12, 2000, she reached the world No. 1 ranking in doubles for the first time, becoming the 13th player to reach the milestone. Raymond was ranked No. 1 on five separate occasions in her career over a combined total of 137 weeks and finished as the year-end No. 1 doubles player in both 2001 and 2006. She currently holds the record of most doubles match wins (860) and most doubles matches played (1,206) in WTA history, and earned more than $10 million in prize money in her career.

Chris Evert defeated the defending champion Martina Navratilova in a rematch of the previous year's final, 6–3, 6–7(4–7), 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1985 French Open. It was her sixth French Open singles title and her 17th major singles title overall.

It was her first Australian Open singles title and her 14th major singles title overall. With the win, Evert completed the career Grand Slam.
Hana Mandlíková defeated Sylvia Hanika in the final, 6–2, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1981 French Open.
Martina Navratilova defeated the defending champion Chris Evert in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1984 French Open. With the win, Navratilova completed a non-calendar-year Grand Slam, dubbed the 'Martina Slam', and became only the second woman in the Open Era to simultaneously hold all four major singles titles. It was Navratilova's second French Open singles title and ninth major singles title overall.

Andrea Petkovic is a German former professional tennis player. Born in Tuzla, SFR Yugoslavia, to Serbian father Zoran and Bosniak mother Amira, she moved to Germany at six months old and turned professional in 2006 at the age of 18. A former top-10 player, Petkovic reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 9 on 10 October 2011, becoming the first German female player ranked inside the top 10 since Steffi Graf in 1999. That year, she played in the quarterfinals of three Grand Slam tournaments as well as a Premier Mandatory final at the China Open, and qualified as an alternate to the WTA Tour Championships.

Defending gold medalists Serena Williams and Venus Williams of the United States successfully defended their title, beating the Czech Republic's Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the gold medal in Women's Doubles tennis at the 2012 Summer Olympics. With the victory, the Williams sisters claimed their third gold medal in doubles and also became the first players in tennis history to win four Olympic golds, with the pairing also winning the doubles gold in 2000 and 2008, and Venus winning the 2000 singles and Serena winning the 2012 singles events. In the bronze medal match, Russia's Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova defeated the United States' Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, 4–6, 6–4, 6–1.
Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock were the defending champions, but were defeated by Sania Mirza and Colin Fleming in the second round.
Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–2, 3–6, 6–4, 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2013 US Open. It was his second US Open title and 13th major title overall, moving him to third place on the all time men's singles major titles list, past Roy Emerson. This marked the third time in four years that Nadal and Djokovic contested the final.
Ekaterina Makarova and Bruno Soares were the defending champions, but Makarova decided not to participate. Soares played with Anabel Medina Garrigues, but lost to Abigail Spears and Santiago González in the semifinals.

Joran Vliegen is a Belgian professional tennis player who specializes in doubles. Vliegen has a career high ATP doubles ranking of World No. 24 achieved on 19 June 2023. He also has a career high singles ranking of World No. 508 achieved on 1 August 2016. Vliegen won two singles titles on the ITF Men's Circuit, but now focuses on doubles. Vliegen has claimed 7 ATP tour doubles titles with partner Sander Gillé.
Chris Evert Lloyd defeated the defending champion Martina Navratilova in the final, 6–0, 6–0 to win the singles tennis title at the 1981 Murjani WTA Championships. Evert lost no sets and just twelve games en route to the title.
